This morning (12/22/2002) my wife's great grandmother called me to tell me of Officer Betts Death. Mrs. Miller is the widow of a 31 year veteran of the Atlanta Police Department. Mrs. Miller was in tears over this tragic incident and was worried about me. I have known Mrs. Miller for more than 20 years so she is like a grandmother to me. She worries about me and my younger brother (Also a GCPD Sergeant) and relives the years of worry she had as a policeman's wife. She reminded me to be safe as she does frequently. She also asked that I remember Ofc. Betts and his wife and son in my prayers. I will...God Bless and keep you all in your time of great sorrow and know that God Loves Policemen and Ofc. Betts is safe now.

Corporal Daniel A. Llorens
Gwinnett County Police Department

Officer Matthew Kelly

There are no words that we can say that will express our thoughts for this family and young son at this time that has not already been said. Just know that our prayer is that at this time of year that Jesus Christ will meet this void now and in the future untill you are reunited once again in heaven.

Romans 12:21 "Be not overcome with evil, But overcome evil with good."

Major David C. McCart
Henry County Sheriff's Office Ga.

My family thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten.

To the Family and friends of Officer Betts,

It is difficult to know what to write to provide courage and sympathy when a brother or sister has fallen. Just know that there are a lot of us who care and are with you in spirit during your time of grief.

Some of us make it to retirement, others do not, but we still are family and when one is hurt everyone hurts.

May you find the strength and comfort to endure your loss and continue on when the time comes, down the path of life.

Retired Investigator Dwight Christensen
Riverside County Sheriff, Riverside California

We are so sorry for your loss. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Last night just when everyone was talking about how tired we were and how we were looking foward to a day off this horrific tragedy occured- it was then when the tears fell and hearts broke that everyone just looked at each other and realized that TIRED had just began! All of Chris's law enforcement family morns his death, and still cry for his wife and small child. Hopefully his wife will understand that ALL of her husbands lawenforcement family and civilian friends will always be here for her! ALWAYS! In loving memory of Chris.....
