Reflections for Officer Christopher Robert Betts

To the Betts Family,

I am sorry to hear of your loss of a great son, husband, father, and friend of mine. Officer Betts was (and still is) an officer that I am greatful to have the opportunity to have worked with. College Park Police Department and East Point Police Department are both saddened to have lost one of our own. I got to know Officer Betts 2 years ago when I started with College Park Police. He will be truly missed by those who have had the honor of working with him.

Thank You Officer C. Betts for being #1 in the eyes of all that you been there for.

From Officer Dontey I. Knight College Park Police Departent

"THE THIN BLUE LINE"
Among us sent down from Heaven,
are those that walk a Thin Blue Line, that's a given.
Like Guardian Angels to watch over me and you,
these brave heroes that wear the uniform of blue.
We view them only as Police traffic stops,
we do not call them our friends just cops.
Pray we never happen on a chance meeting,
nor pass along in kindness a simple greeting.
However they are so much more than this,
they simply do not see the world as bliss.
Looking into the corners of our deepest fear,
they walk the beat, they dry a tear.
Often delivering messages to our home,
when all is not well and we are alone.
Always coming to us no matter the need,
handle the problem, complete the deed.
Sitting their personal feelings aside,
they do their job, they have great pride.
And if one should fall among life's things,
the badge they wear, turns into wings.

I was hoping that when I looked at ODMP today that there would be no new names to see, but that was not to be. It's heartbreaking and my thoughts and prayers go to everyone that Officer Betts knew and loved. If I could change this crazy world so that people who try to uphold the law could be safe, it would indeed be a miracle. Rest in peace.

Dear Heavenly Father
I asked that you be with this officer's family during this difficult time. Let his son grow up safe and strong and protect him as his father gave his life protecting us. Finally let this be the last death for any officer, fireman, emt, or serviceman for the remaining days of 2002.

I grew up in Hapeville, and attended school in East Point, and am now in law enforecement myself. There are also several members of my family that are LE as well, and it feels as though we have lost a brother. We've lost a hometown hero. My heart goes out to his wife and snall child, as well as to Officer Weimann. I pray for Officer's Weinmann's recovery, and to all those whose hearts are affected by this loss, may time heal.

I pray that your family and coworkers will be able to relate stories of you to your son in the future, that he may know you and be proud of you. I pray that your wife and family will somehow find a degree of comfort at this time and that your coworkers and friends will be blessed.

It is never easy to except the fact that another officer has been pulled off the thin blue line. In our hearts, the spirit of this officer....like many, will remain and carry on the tradition to protect and serve. My deepest sympathy goes out to the family, friends and the department for this grave loss.

I met Chris when he started with EPPD about 2 years ago....full of spunk and ready to go.....

Chris was trained by the best and worked as he had been trained....

Chris joined the EPPD Honor Guard Team about a year ago....I knew he'd be alright, because he's been in the Army for several years before....When he dressed in the uniform, he was always tight....a very squared away 'soldier'....

Mostly, I remember Chris for being the 'life of the party'...with the wits and humor to keep you rolling for hours....not too bad at basketball either....

Chris was a great husband to his wife and a new, loving daddy to his son....the perfect family man....

I love you, Chris....and I miss you.....
