Aron
K9 Aron succumbed to heat exhaustion after the temperature monitoring alarm system failed while the patrol vehicle was idling.
K9 Aron was left in a patrol vehicle with the air conditioner running. All Houston Police Department canine vehicles are equipped with an alarm system that activates when the inside temperature rises to unsafe levels. The monitor system notifies the handler, sounds a horn, and can also lower the windows. The system malfunctioned when the air conditioner failed. When the handler returned to his vehicle and noticed K9 Aron in distress, he transported him to a veterinarian clinic where K9 Aron succumbed to heat exhaustion.
K9 Aron was an explosives detection canine and had served with the Houston Police Department for 1-1/2 years.
