Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for over five years. Feel those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave

I don't know what to say besides evil will always try to destroy good. The inmate was very definition of what is wrong with mankind and Officer Johnson is what mankind should strive to be selfless, honorable and willing to give the last full measure of devotion.

My thoughts and prayers to her Family and loved ones. I have worked in corrections for over 28 years and have always tried to stress to other Deputies that we are dealing primarily with sober, anti-social individuals who study and watch our pattern of conduct and behavior. We must all maintain situational awareness. God Speed and rest in peace Officer Johnson

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Mari Johnson but my heart hurts for her as if I did. My prayers are with her family.

In Abilene Texas, early Saturday morning July 16, 2016, a female Correctional Officer was Murdered buy a male inmate. Mari Johnson, age 55, was working her normal shift when, sometime between 1am and 3am, she was killed.
The public thinks we are nothing but glorified babysitters but the reality is that our job is more dangerous than that. We deal, on a daily basis, with murders, rapist, child molesters, thieves, and master manipulators. It takes a strong person to do what we do. Mari was a human being, she was a person. A person with a life outside of the prison and a family.
She was a wife who will never kiss her husband again, a mother who will never again hold her children, a daughter who’s mother will never again feel her warm embrace and father’s smile, a sister who will never again reminisce with her siblings, a grandmother, an aunt, a friend. What solace can we offer her family? There will be a beautiful funeral and celebration of life but never another birthday. There will be condolences and flowers and cards and hugs. But not the hug her family most needs, not the one that matters, not Mari’s. People will sing and cry and praise her memory. Why did she have to become a memory? The funeral will end and everyone will go home. Home to their wives, mothers, children, siblings, friends. The Johnson family will go to a shell that was once a home. Because what was once complete has now been shattered. What was once whole is now broken.
I know this feeling because I saw it in the shocked looks on my family’s faces and in their eyes when I myself almost did not come home, having almost lost my life to an inmate attack while on duty. It’s a pain like no other.
Her family will go home and after time we will forget. Forget the bright and loved Mari Johnson that gave her life doing what she loved. The woman who risked it all so others would feel safe. We will forget. . . . but we do not have to. Change needs to be made in America’s prisons to better protect all staff. In most states we are underpaid, understaffed, overworked and forced into mandatory overtime. We are burnt out but still we come to work every day and do our duty. It is time for change. Do not let Mari Johnson, her family and the many other Correctional Officers who have lost their lives be forgotten. Move for change. Move for justice. Move.

So sorry for your loss. My son is a corrections officer as well. At first I worried about him everyday he went to work But I had to stop because it was driving me crazy. I know that he has been very well trained... still in the back of my mind I know anything can happen. My heart felt thoughts and prayers. Go out to your whole family.
