Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place.
As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say “it’s OK, you’re with your eternal partners.”
A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

Sister, thank you for your service to the State of Texas and the nation as a whole. Dangerous people need to be kept from society until they either see the error of their ways or are no longer a threat to innocent people and Corrections Officers are just the people to do this honorable yet dangerous job. You sadly proved how dangerous your job is and in the worst possible way. You, your family and all of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice are in our prayers.

God Bless and may you eternally Rest in Peace.

While police officer's never know who they are dealing with, generally corrections officer's do. The business is supervising those who are already convicted. Inmates have little to do all day. They plot, scheme and cajole. It is there house under control of a few outnumbered professionals who know the odds are stacked against them everytime they enter the walls. Our correctional professionals deal with drama and human behavior at its worst and come back day after day because as partners with The Thin Blue Line, society is counting on us. We recognize your sacrifice and salute your contribution, CO Johnson. May you rest in eternal peace.

FLAG OF A FALLEN HERO

I am placed upon the casket with reverence
Symbol of Honor, Service,
Loyalty and Dedication.
I am the Flag of a Fallen Hero.

I proudly embrace the casket
Guards silently stand with heads bowed.
Never leaving the Hero alone.

I am snapped to attention
Stars and stripes are folded
red, white, then blue.
Gentle hands offering a loving embrace.

Slow salutes of honor and respect
are answered in kind.
I am presented to family on bended knee
with whispered words of condolence,
love and support.

I feel the beating of a grieving heart as I am pressed to the chest
Tears fall upon my stars
and become a permanent part of my fabric.

Taps.
Mournful notes of grief
whisper softly to the heart.

I am the Flag of a Fallen Hero.

It is my End of Watch.

I wrote this to honor the memory of all law enforcement heroes.
S.J., 2016.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. I am so very sorry for your loss. As a show of gratitude, support, and our prayers for all First Responders, a blue light shines in our window every evening.

Thank you all for your service Shari J.
