Officer Douglas Barney, I didn't know you, but i know your sacrifice. You were supporting your family and working overtime to pay for your cancer treatment. May god cherish you and hold you to this day, thank you for protecting those who cannot protect themselves. For caring and loving those around you.

Douglas my friend, its been a whole year now since you were taken. A year seems so long and so short at the same time. Still I know for your family its got to feel painfully slow and hard especially for the kids. Thinking of you some of the calls and dumb things we went on about in Kearns made me laugh. On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Doug was killed.

To the Barney family, fellow officers, and all who call Doug beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Barney gave to his community and the citizens of Utah, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on January 17, 2016.

I am a recruit in class #413 with Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department, we have been keeping an eye on recent fallen officers and presenting to the class each and every time an officer has passed. Your story is one that gets overlooked too soon by the media, I wanted to let the families and friends know that all around the country people still remember your loved one. Keep strong in your time of need and know that we are all a family. Thank you for your service to your country!

As I attended your sons dedicated Hockey game to you. It brought emotions that I have not felt for along time. When your son scored the sound of the building erupted. Seeing officers from all difference agencies cheer, you could feel the presence of support. This was equivalent to your funeral. You were and still are an amazing Law Enforcement officer. R.I.P Officer Barney.
