Words will never be able to adequately express such deep gratitude for your service and the great sacrifice your family has made to our community. Officer Barney has paid the ultimate price. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." God be with you, Barney Family.

My sincere condolences to Officer Barney wife, children, family, friends, and colleagues of the Unified Police Dept. Thank You for the good deeds of serving and protecting your community. Officer Barney's good deeds will not go unnoticed. God promises this at Revelation 20:12,13 "I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and scrolls were opened. But another scroll was opened;it is the scroll of life. The dead were judged out of those things written in the scrolls according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead in it, and death and the Grave gave up the dead in them, and they were judges individually according to their deeds." I pray God's word bring comfort to all who loved Officer Barney.

I don't know if you'll see this or not and I don't know how much you'll remember, but my name is Lexi Christensen and I used to be friends with Meri in 2nd-4th grade. I lived only a few blocks away from their house and went to play there all the time. Literally, what I can remember about Doug is that he was hilarious. The girls had a party at Hollywood Connections and he picked up all the girls in his police cruiser. I don't remember what was said but for the whole car ride Meri and Mattie laughed and laughed and laughed at everything he said. Everytime Doug came home all of the kids ran to see him, and I am just so glad that your family is your family and that you all got to be together. I know it will all be alright in the end and I'll keep praying for you. Thank-you for touching my life with your beautiful family!

No Police Officer should ever be shot serving in the-line-of-duty. Officer Barney had served in law enforcement for 18 years and was assigned to the Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake's Holladay Precinct. He was survived by his wife and three children. We need police more than ever, let's change this!
