Before I closed my eyes last night, I kissed my retired police officer husband. I gave thanks for that very moment and recalled how often in our 36 years of marriage, the night fall meant he was on his way out the door to serve the community in a job he loved. We both lifted up the families of the NYPD officers in our prayers.

Little did I know that just north of us a few hours later, another officer would die in the line of duty. We were overwhelmed with grief this morning when we heard the news and began to pray again. Prayers continued into our church service at Grace Lutheran in Clearwater.

God bless his family, friends, and coworkers during this difficult time. Thank you for your service, Officer Kochen.

One more Officer gone. My condolences to friends, family and colleagues. My husband is ex- Metropolitan Police (UK) and every day there was the possibility that he too would end his shift in such a manner. Police families live with this every minute of every tour of duty. To them I send love and prayers. You will all be in my thoughts from this day on. Be assured, the shining light of his bracey in service will never dim.
