Rest in Peace Officer Santiago. As a recent citizen of the city, I can only express gratitude to the work and sacrifice our police officers make to keep our city safe.

From everything I've learned, Mr. Santiago was an exceptional citizen, person, and police officer. I hope the city and its officers can take from his example and continue to honor his memory. I know that he has inspired me (unfortunately posthumously) to try to have a greater impact on my new city.

As we move through our career in law enforcement, we encounter countless times that we could be injured or killed. Even the most prepared officer cannot always know when the moment between life and death arrives. Another officer dies unnecessarily but he heeded the call and put his life on the line in order to protect those in his community. I am sure his family at home and his law enforcement family, his community, are all grieving. We pray for God's comfort. Please know all law enforcement officers across the US are grieving too.
