Reflections for Detective Melvin Vincent Santiago

This tragic incident brings tears to my eyes; to this young Officer, his family and friends, and for the Jersey City Police Department. Having spent 36 years as a Police Officer, I can only hope and pray. "The Thin Blue Line" is a little shorter today, but still as tough. Politicians keep cutting Public Safety Ranks and Budgets, but welfare continues to rise! May God welcome this young Officer. Thank-you for your service sir!!

Dear God the Father, please bring comfort and blessing to Officer Santiago's family and loved ones. This terrible loss of life brings sadness to all of us who recognize and realize that evil exists in this world and has no mercy or compassion for the innocent such as Officer Santiago. Officer Santiago died serving our country and he should be remembered always for the sacrifice he and his family has made. May God Bless Officer's Santiago's Family!

Officer Santiago's death is very tragic, but his death troubles me in that I can imagine the immense pride his family had for him in becoming an officer and within the same year losing him. The the intense grief and injustice must be overwhelming.

There are a lot of youth that need help out there as well as many criminals that need to be dealt with. Officer Santiago did not even have a chance to reach the amazing potential that I believe he would have surpassed. His legacy was cut short by a loser in a split second.

I offer my condolences to the family and know he would have made a huge difference in the lives of many, but in death he will never be forgotten. I am proud that men like him choose the right path which sometimes takes strength, grit, and determination but ultimately serves as a role model to so many kids.

I hope his family gets the support they deserve and Officer Santiago will rest in peace.
