THE FINAL INSPECTION
The officer stood and faced God, which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now Policeman, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?"
The Policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry badges, we can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny, that wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place, among the people here. They never wanted me around, except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne, where the saints had often trod. As the Policeman waited quietly, for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Policeman, You've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets; you’ve done your time in Hell."

Rest in Peace my brother.

I am proud to call this brave young man a "Brother in Blue". Though his time with us was short, he exemplified the courage and strength of a 25 year veteran. His sacrifice is another painful reminder of the growing dangers our profession faces in American society today. Yet in the face of those dangers, we press on and pledge to continue the fight against evil. Just as our hero from Jersey City did. Rest easy, Brother Santiago, we'll take it from here.

“Step forward now, Officer, you’ve borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven’s Streets. You’ve done your time in Hell.”

P/O Santiago you left us too soon but died doing what you loved. When a brother in blue is killed, it is felt in all public service.....Police, Fire & EMS. It takes a special person and mindset to wear a uniform and risk what others run from. You were front and center! RIP my brother.....you patrol in heaven watching us below.

A MOMENT
from the Book “Stories of Faith and Courage from COPS on the Street”

Dear Heavenly Father,
It was only a moment,
but
In that moment a madman walked by
In that moment the world was changed.
In that moment countless Lives, were altered utterly.
In that moment our hearts began breaking.
Now in these moments we speak names previously unknown:
With reverence, we utter Charles Basye, Robert Libke.
In a moment our Line of BLUE stretched out across the nation.
That hard, fast and steady Line of BLUE had been breached.
In these moments now help us as we have all become a part of the Line of BLUE.
Dry our tears, comfort our broken hearts, strengthen our weaken knees, cure our confusion.
May the Line of BLUE draw a circle around us pulling back our hope.
May the Line of BLUE be a shield before us.
May this Line of BLUE carry us into the moments of our future.
A future made sure by their sacrifice in a moment.
It was only a moment and they were gone but
the Line of BLUE and we go on…
AMEN!

In honor of the fallen.
