I wanted to take a moment to express my condolence to you and to your department's members during these tough times for the loss of Det./Sgt. Tom Smith. I read the article on the ODMP today and was touched by the totality of the tragic incident. I know its a tough time for everyone involved including Sgt. Smith's wife, whose a member of the Bart Police Department and for his daughter. My heart goes out to all of the Officers who were present during the incident especially to the Officer involved, whose life will forever be changed by this incident.

As an Officer who has been involved in deadly force shooting incidents, where someone's life was taken, it has an affect on you and those around you, for a long time.

I will keep the your outstanding Officers in my thoughts and prayers that God will comfort Sgt. Smith's family and your entire Police Department.
