Please accept my heartfelt condolences for the loss of your husband, father, family member and fellow LEO. This was undoubtedly a needless loss of life by an Officer in the lawful performance of his duties. Only God knows why. May the Lord wrap his loving arms around this family and the other involved Officer, for only He knows the heart of a just man. Rest in peace brother, Detective Sergeant Smith.

I have laid down my life in service to all of you.
I have been a part of the fabric that has held the line between your safety and your victimization. I have given my life so that others may live in peace. I have lived my life as a dedicated member of the greatest profession. There is no greater honor.

As I now become a part of the rich history of law enforcement, please remember me always for I have left behind those who loved and depended upon me.
My partners and my agency, please remember my family, their loss, and don’t let time soften your compassion for them.

You guard the gate now and I will continue my watch from above.

MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AND MAY YOUR FAMILY FIND COMFORT IN THE GOOD YOU HAVE DONE HERE ON EARTH.

For Detective Sergeant Tom Smith:

Our duty as police officer involves the use of firearms and other weapons. It is incumbent upon each of us to use these weapons with the utmost care and responsibility. Probably nothing we do as law-officers can produce more heartache and regret than to accidently wound or kill a fellow officer. That said, it can and does happen. Sadly, it will happen again. In an effort to commemorate DS Tom Smith's name and dedication as a professional law-officer, each of us should take a moment to commit ourselves to weapons safety, to promoting weapons safety, to speaking weapons-safety and demanding weapons safety. We owe this to Tom. We owe this to each other.
We pray for Tom's family, friends. co-workers, and all who care about him.
With this thought in mind, we proudly render DS Tom Smith, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.
