My hear breaks for Det. Sgt. Smith, his family, brothers and sisters in blue, and the entire Bay Area community. He was a true hero and will never be forgotten. To the family, please lean on your LE family, as they will be your strength from here on out. I lost my 29 year old son and love of my life, Officer Casey Kohlmeier & his K-9 Draco, in the line of duty when a drunk driver killed them 3 months ago, on October 30, 2013, in Pontiac, IL, and I could not make it without their continued love and support of my family. Every day is a new challenge, and I will be honest with you, it still feels like yesterday. Everyone says the pain will be easier to bear in the days and years ahead, and tho it has only softened a bit, the LE community and COPS organization have been godsends to us. I will pray for you all to get through this with us and give us strength for each new day. God bless you all.

Mother of Ofc Casey Kohlmeier & K9 Draco, Pontiac, IL PD, EOW 10/30/13

I've tried to write this for a half hour now, and everything I write doesn't seem to adequately describe the amount of sadness I feel this week. I still can't believe what's happened. You were a great man, and I'm proud to have been able to call you a friend. To Kellie, Ed, Pat, and the rest of the Smith family, I am very sorry for your loss.
