I worked at USP Atwater Ca. When Officer Jose Rivera was killed in the line of duty June 20, 2008. I saw him as he lay lifeless on the strecher and know what the fine men and women are going through right now. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends and to every CO keep your heads up and push through only time will heal. It is time the BOP wakes up and makes it safer for all it's staff. As a detention supervisor, my biggest fear is that one of my troops will get hurt or not go home at the end of a shift. I feel that we have the hardest job in law enforcement. We lock ourselves in a building with men and women who are sometimes accused or convicted of horrible crimes and stand between them and the law abiding citizens we are sworn to protect. We are outnumbered every day. We do this without weapons, without vests. All we have is each other. I thank you Erik, for your brave and honorable service. Your brothers and sisters of the Midland County Sheriff's Office Central Detention Division will keep you, your loved ones, and fellow officers in our thoughts and prayers. Rest easy my brother.

So sorry for one of my brother C/O's to die in the hands of a criminal that does'nt deserve the same air we breathe.
It sickens me to see such a young officers to die because of we have so misfits in society and no matter what crime commit they get the chance to live live in the states without the death penalty.
Our society does'nt believe in an eye for an eye and its too bad because now we have a grieving family cause of a misfit that should have been taken care of a longtime ago.
This really hits close to home as I am a Corrections Officer that also must walk among these murders, rapist ect as my fallen brother did.May god bless his sole and I beg the lord over look his loved ones at a time of pain and My fallen brother will be greatly missed and the Convict, well he gets to live, sometimes Life is not fair and this is a prime example.
RIP Brother. God I pray you ease the pain of this Officers Family
