We lost Gary Rowe at MCC, San Diego, 30 years ago this month. Gary was a friend and co-worker, and I still miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with Eric's family, the Warden and Staff at Canaan and Director Samuels and the entire BOP family. This saddens me beyond description.

Even though your tour of duty was short, I know you accomplished a lot. Your will be in every Officer's heart as a constant reminder of the unpredictible career path many of us has chosen. May God be with your family and friends during this tragic time and look down on us as a guardian from above. God bless you and thank you for your dedication to your country.

This news breaks my heart for this Officers family. He did what he had
To do for himself and family. How cruel was this. And the murderer really thought he would get away with this ?
Prayers and love to his brothers and sisters on the force and to his family

The Final Inspection
The Officer stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass.
“Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with You?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?”
The officer squared his shoulders and said,
“No, Lord, I guess I ain’t.
Cause those of us who carry badges can’t always be a saint.
But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears.
I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you’ve a place for me here, Lord, it needn’t be so grand.
I’ve never expected or had too much.
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.”
There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod.
As the officer waited quietly for the answer of his God.
“Step forward now, Officer, you’ve borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven’s Streets. You’ve done your time in Hell.”

As we have recently lost one of our own, Detective Jeremiah McKay, the loss of a brother never gets easier to hear and is never in vain.

Rest in peace, brother.

My deepest sympathy to the Family of Officer Williams. He made the ultimate sacrifice in a thankless job. We don't do this for the glory or the money, it takes a special kind of person to be locked in with the scum of society to keep them inside the fence so society can be safe. May you rest in peace Officer Williams, your sacrifice will never be forgotten!

My condolences go out to the family of the fallen Correctional Officer and to his co-workers as well. This is a fear that I have every time I walk into work. We are seriously outnumbered and get little if no credit for the service that we provide for the community and the victims. I will pray for the family and for my brothers and sisters in the correctional world. We need to have each others back no matter what and make sure that we all go home at the end of the day. God speed everyone.
