For Corrections Officer Eric Williams:

The law officers who take on the enormous and dangerous task of housing, feeding and handling the worst among us in society go about their duty daily with hardly any recognition by the public.
When an inmate strikes-out and kills one of his keepers it mostly goes unnoticed by the public. The killer has now descended to a level below the debts of hell. No punishment is severe enough afterward, and to dispatch him to eternity would be worse than setting him free. Solitary confinement then is therefore not cruel and unusual punishment - it is the only punishment. The cruelty then appears only when such an inmate finally dies, as he has perpetrated an escape from justice and we become the unusual - the victim of yet another kind of crime.
We pray for Eric's family, friends, co-workers, and all who care about him.
We are proud to render CO Eric Williams, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennsylvania State Police
