"Angel In Blue"
a fallen hero
an angel in blue
strong and brave
his heart ever true

He vowed to protect
no matter the pain
men women and children
in sunshine and rain

His badge was more
than a shining pin
it was honesty, sacrifice
glowing from within

He gave of his time
his love and his life
adored his children
worshipped his wife

Never counting the cost
he never gave up hope
even when all seem lost
between guns and dope

his time on the streets
came to an end
now he was leading
the men from within

as chief of police
upon his officers impressed
the importance of
giving their best

his time in office
came to a close
now he and his bride
retirement chose

with kids grown and gone
they now had the time
to serve up tequila
with salt and lime

a gun blast rang out
his chest felt tight
he was fading fast
losing his fight

as his life slipped away
an angel appeared
"your time here is over
you've served many years

it's time to come home
we here have need of you
you won't be forgotten
you're an angel in blue.

To Officer Crouse's family, friends & co-workers,
I grieve with & for you at the tragedy that took your loved one from you yesterday. I hope the many thoughts & prayers that are going up for you across the country will help give you support during this time and the days/years ahead of you. The road you began travelling yesterday is a long & often difficult road but there are many people out here who have been down similar paths of losing a loved one in the line of duty who will be there to help you. I pray that Officer Crouse's children will know their Daddy was a hero for what he did as a soldier & police officer and that he was protecting all of us when he died. I pray the Lord will wrap his loving arms around all of you and help you find peace. Time doesn't heal your broken heart but it does help you learn to live what will be your "normal" life without Deriek and one day your memories will bring more smiles than tears. You will continue to be in my prayers.

Another senseless murder because of a man's profession. The most important thing is for the family to know they were loved by a hero. God bless the family, friends & the Department. Who can explain senseless tragedy?

Standing at attention in their class “A“ uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place. As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say its ok you’re with your eternal partners. A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

God Bless you Officer Crouse. My prayers are with your wife, children, family and your law enforcement family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Officer Crouse you made a difference and you touched many lives. I went to Radford Unversity and some of my college friends were your friends and after talking to them I know you made a difference in many lives.

In your memory,

Oh... you're a Cop?? That's cool. I wanted to do that when I was a kid. What do you make?"

"WHAT DO I MAKE?? I make holding your hand seem like the biggest thing in the world when someone just tried to hurt you. I make 5 minutes seem like a lifetime when I am fighting a suspect while waiting for back up. I make those annoying sirens seem like angels ...when you need them. I can make your children........................... breathe... when they stop. I make myself get out of bed at 3am to risk my life to save people I've never met. I make it possible to keep back the chaos everyday. I make going to work for your family's safety a duty that I will die for. I make myself work holidays, nights, during hurricanes, tornados and other disasters. Today I might make the ultimate sacrifice to save your life.

I make a difference, what do you make?"

People will never forget you or what you stood for. I would like to say to the family that I am sorry for your tragic loss and my prayers are with you. Also to his family in blue who we sometimes forget to mention. I know some of you are feeling this pain as well. Carry on in his memory and be stronger. God bless all of you.
