Reflections for Police Officer I Deriek W. Crouse

We unfortunatly normally hear about such situations dealing with larger departments or more "patrol type departments" not "campus type agencies". It saddens me that this had to occur, it saddens me that you were not able to return home to your family, and now in the light of this holiday season your family has to live through this expierence. My heart and prayers goes out to all you, all of your family and friends, and the Virginia Tech police department. Because this is not as heard of in campus type agencies as much as those municipality departments it brings a grim reminder that no matter who we are and what department we work for we must always stay vigilant in our effort to fight crime. May God watch over your family. I can tell you were already watching over your fellow brothers and sisters when the VSP trooper was shot later in the day. Because your sacrifice I am reminded to step my game up on the campus that I work.

SVTC Police Department

Dear Father,
It was only a moment,
but
In that moment a madman walked in
In that moment the world was changed.
In that moment countless lives, were utterly altered.
In that moment our hearts began breaking.
In these moments we speak names previously unknown:
With reverence, we speak his name, Chief Painter
In a moment our line of BLUE stretched out across the nation.
That hard, fast and steady line of BLUE has been breached.
In these moments help us as we have all become a part of the
line of BLUE.
Dry our tears, comfort our broken hearts, strengthen our weaken knees, cure our confusion.
May the line of BLUE draw a circle around us pulling back our hope.
May the line of BLUE be a shield before us.
May the line of BLUE carry us into the moments of our future.
A future made sure by their sacrifice in a moment.
It was only a moment and they were gone but
we and the line of BLUE go on…

In honor of the fallen.

My debt of gratitude for your service is deep, and I long for a day when no more officers fall, nor their families and fellow officers have to face the long twilight of loss. A Policeman's Prayer

Another day, Lord to do my work,
Unsure of what lies ahead.

It may hold the chance to help those in need,
And that would be my desire.

I pray that You will empower me to be a
Peacemaker to all I come in contact with.

To the helpless, may I be a helper,
To the distressed, may I be a comfort.

To those who plan evil, may I be a deterrent.
And to those who have carried out their plans,
May I be a sword of justice so they will no longer
Prey on the weak and hurting.

I humbly ask that You surround me with Your angels
and a wall of fire for protection.

And if, in the course of Your plan,
I find this day to be my last,
The concern of my life is that You would be
The Father to my children and
The provider to my spouse.
