It’s painful to ever lose a brother or sister officer, it can be especially painful, when working for a college or university to learn of a fellow ‘campus cop’ losing his or her life since we’re always told things like, “Oh you must have it easy, I bet nothing happens there.” IT happens everywhere and this is one of the very sad reminders of that.

To the Tech community, you’ve endured more than your share of hell in the past few years; it is so outrageous that this adds to your fears. I hope however two good things come from this awful event; that you are ALWAYS aware that you are at risk. The real world does not respect property lines and college campuses are not in bubbles. Far too many people forget even recent events and go back to that lackadaisical approach to life. The other thing I hope you take from this is a new respect for the officers who are out there protecting you; they have earned it more than they should have ever had to.

To the PD that serves and protects that institution, you have gone through far too much in recent years, and that’s only what makes the papers. May God watch over each and every one of you and keep you safe while you keep the ‘kids’ safe.

Lastly, to those who know and love Officer Crouse, most especially his family and children, he may be gone physically, but he will never be far from you. He served his country (for others) and he served the Virginia Tech community (for others) I cannot believe he won’t be there with you forever. As long as you keep in him in your hearts and minds, he’ll always be there, and I believe you will know it.
Officer Crouse, may God bless you and may you forever Rest in Peace. E.O.W. you’ve earned a rest, Brother.

Harvard University Police Dept.

"We Remember the Officers"

We remember the officers who changed our lives,
The men and woman who protected us day and night,
People who respect for their dedication to the cause,
For when faced with danger, they never even pause.

We remember the officers who always stood true,
Whatever the color of uniform, brown gray or blue,
With pride and integrity they say "To serve and protect",
For the giving of their life, we offer our respect.

We remember the officers who we never really knew,
Persons strong enough to answer the challenge are few,
With heavy hearts we mourn the officers in eternal rest,
There's more to these people than the badge on their chest.
