It is so nice to read all of the kind things that were written about Jeremy by those who knew him - and even those who didn't. Sleep has not come easily this week for my husband and I. I try to read these comments when I wake up in the middle of the night. It's comforting. We'll miss you, Jeremy. Here's hoping you get some apple pie and vanilla ice cream after Thanksgiving dinner in heaven.

I am a child of God and asking my Lord why this has happenend. My faith leads me to believe the Lord loved you so much he could no longer share you with us. He needed you more than we do. I do not understand the senseless tragedy but I remind myself God knows better than I.....God is my Father who created all and he knows better than I

I hope your journey was quick my brother.

I did not know you, or have the privilege of meeting you.
Yet, my heart broke the moment I heard. First the sirens, then the words.
My eyes tear as I feel pain, yet I was not even there.
My heart is heavy and aches for what you went through.
I am both incredibly sad and proud.

I hurt for you, your dear family...I cannot imagine what that night was like for you or them.
I hurt for your squad, your entire department. Fourth deaths in 10 months...I cannot begin to understand their level of pain.
I hurt for your fellow Marines. They too have lost a brother.
I hurt for our City, and our Country. We lost you, at time when we need more of you.

I am proud to have had the honor of you protecting me and my neighborhood.
I am proud of your department. Fighting to save their brother in blue...their composure to continue their mission, yet I cry for their hurt souls.
I am proud of the citizens who were there. They ran to your aid without hesitation. You brought out the best them, new heros were born.

A San Diego Police Officer...and a U. S. Marine.

You gave the ultimate sacrifice.
An unjust departure, not defeated.
Five days ago you were a Fallen Officer.
Today you are a Rising Blue Angel.

I will visit you tomorrow at your funeral to pay my respects, and for your service my final thanks. I do not know you, but I promise I will NEVER forget you.

Rest in Peace Brother.

Jeremy,

I am in such shock, I remember saying to you; are you sure you want to work down there? I remember your runs, motorcycle our conversations about my puppy, you were concerned about his paws on the hot concrete and you missed your dog. We were normal neighbors at Sun Ridge complaining about the HOA letters, comments on how emotional folks are while you were in training. Borrowing stuff, tool, measuring cup of something I cannot remember what it was. I still have it :) Upon moving you gave my son your phone number in case we needed anything. Thank you for that, I'm a single mom and of course you knew that. I am so sad now. You will never be forgotten. God Bless your family, I am truly sorry you lost him.

Jeremy,

I hope you are looking down from heaven right now at your brothers and sisters here at Mid-City and all of SDPD, seeing how much you are missed! We've made a bit of a mess of your locker. I know you would understand...
If you were here to read all of the prayers your fellow police officers left for you on your locker - you would see how much you are loved and missed!

I hope you look in on us from time to time. Be the guardian angel for us now as you were in life.

RIP Officer Jeremy Henwood, SDPD

You are missed more than you know. Our prayers are with you and your family.

YOU NEED NEVER ASK WHY BECAUSE CALVARY COVERS IT ALL. ONE THING WE DO KNOW; THE DEATH OF A CHRISTIAN DOESN'T SEEM AS TRAGIC TO GOD AS IT DOES TO US. TO US IT IS SEPRATION AND SORROW. TO GOD IT IS
1- A PROMOTION
2. A RELEASE FROM THE BURDENS ON EARTH
3. EARLY FURLOUGH FROM THE BATTLE ZONE
4. RELOCATION TO A BETTER CLIMATE
5. INSTANT TRANSPORT TO THE CELESTRIAL CITY
6. TO DEPART AND BE WITH CHRIST, WHICH IS FAR BETTER
7. TO BE ABSENT FROM THE BODY BUT PRESENT WITH THE LORD.

OUR FRIEND HAS BEATEN US TO HEAVEN AND IS NORE ALIVE THAN EVER, FOR GOD IS NOT A GOD OF THE DEAD, BUT OF THE LIVING. WE DON'T UNDERSTAND ALL OF GOD/S PURPOSES, BUT WE KNOW HE DOES ALL THINGS WELL, AND WE MUST SIMPLY LEAVE IT THERE. IN HIS LOVE.

Jeremy,

I read with pride and admiration the reflections from your brothers and sisters who acknowledge, confirm and honor your warrior spirit, integrity, loyalty and commitment to duty and the ultimate sacrifice to Corps, Country and Community. Abraham Lincoln said in his Gettysburg Address of November 1863, “The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain.”

You will be missed brother but not forgotten.

Godspeed

"I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic [he] died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours, to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully, Abraham Lincoln"

To me, you will always be Officer Jeremy "More Projects!" Henwood - Semper Vigilans.

Semper Fi My Brother Marine!

“Marines”

You can have your Army Kakiis,
And your Navy Blues,
But here’s a different fighting man,
I’ll introduce to you.
His uniform is unlike,
Any you’ve ever seen,
The Germans called him “Devil Dog”,
His title is “Marine”.

He was trained in Parris Island,
The place that God forgot,
The sand was fourteen inches deep,
The sun was blazing hot.
He awakened up one morning,
In front of his rack he’ll stand,
And in through the doorway walked,
A giant of a man.

He turned and faced this young Marine,
With eyes as cold as steel,
He said, “I am your DI,
And this is for real.
I’ll make your life as miserable,
As miserable as I can,
And when you finally leave this place,
You’ll be a fighting man.
You’ll be a rifle expert,
You’ll know your weapon well,
And when you encounter the Viet Cong,
You’ll send their souls to Hell.

Now gather around you young Marines,
And lend me all your ears,
And I’ll tell you of a few things,
We’ve conquered through the years,
We fought at Iwo Jima,
The land of fire and Hell,
We killed all those Japanese,
And took their land as well.

Now you can tell your ladies,
And this my Lad is true,
To get herself a young “Marine”,
There is nothing he can’t do.
He’s peeled a million onions,
And twice as many spuds,
Then you’ll find him in the slop chutes,
A soaking up the suds.

And when he gets to Heaven,
St.Peter he will tell,
Another “Marine” reporting Sir.
I’ve served my time in Hell.

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
