There are no words to express the sadness we feel. There are not enough tears to show the world what we've lost. What will live on is your honor and commitment to a calling that is bigger than us all. Thank you for being there for that little girl, and for being willing to place yourself in harms way. You are sheepdog and have protected your flock well. Go rest high, we will take the watch from here. Thank you for your dedication and service.

To My Sister In Blue,

When I heard the news about you my heart deeply was sadden. To hear that all your life all you ever wanted to do was pursue your career as a LEO. Your young life was taken to soon but God needed you to patrol the streets in Heaven. You gave the ultimate sacrifice by saving a childs life by your own. You will be greatly rewarded in Heaven. Your family in BLUE will deeply miss you and will continue to pray for both your family and your family in BLUE. May God Bless You. As we continue watch down here please keep watch over us from up above. Godspeed Jillian

Jillian: I am your sister in blue. The back of my badge is now inscribed with “2650”. So while you have been called to patrol the beats of Heaven, know that you still patrol the streets down here too.

To Officer Smith’s families: We all share your burden. She is missed.

That Is Dying

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says, “There, she is gone!”

“Gone where?”

Gone from my sight. That is all. She hangs as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, “There, she is gone!”, there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, “Here she comes!”

And that is dying!

Rest in peace.

Officer Jillian Michelle Smith is a HERO. To step in front of a child to save that childs life is heroic. I'm proud of Jillian. I don't know Jillian, nor anyone from her agency. I am a Domestic Violence Detective and I know how emotional and "crazy" the calls can be. She acted and did the best she could in the circumstances. I'm so sorry she lost her life and I will keep her and her family in my heart.

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the person who died. Rather we should thank God that such people lived.

"The Final Inspection"

The policewoman stood and faced her God,
Which must always come to pass.
She hoped her shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as her brass.

"Step forward now, policewoman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policewoman squared her shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept many tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policewoman waited quietly,
For the judgment of her God.

"Step forward now, policewoman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Take your rest Officer Smith... we've got the watch.

To the family and friends of Officer Smith and to the Arlington Police Department, my prayers are with you.
