Reflections for Police Officer Jillian Michelle Smith

Officer Smith, I have a memorial bracelet I'm wearing on the Road to Hope 250-mile bike ride from Virginia to D.C. for you. I admire your bravery you showed and that your last act was in defense of another. Godspeed sister. I will visit your name on the wall at the National Memorial.

I did not have the honor of knowing Officer Smith but after reading her story my heart ached because of the senseless way in which she was murdered. I am moved with compassion for her surviving family members and will keep them in my prayers that her legacy and memory will not be forgotten in her death. I sat next to Jillian in a handful of classes at UT-Arlington and she was always so positive and talked often about joining APD after graduation. It's hard to believe this was almost four years ago already. She gave the ultimate sacrifice, I am grateful for those such as her who are/were selfless enough to serve. I never knew her truly well, but won't forget her enthusiasm and heart to do some good in this world. It would be a better place if we all had the same attitude.

I STILL REMEMBER HEARING ABOUT THIS SAD STORY, AND EVEN TODAY, I WENT BACK TO LOOK AT A YOUNG, VIBRANT LOOKING OFFICER NEW IN HER CAREER. I HAVE CHILDREN OLDER THAN HERSELF. I HOPE THE FAMILY AT HOME AND HER AGENCY ARE COPING WELL AS CAN BE EXPECTED. GOD'S SPEED TO ALL MEMBERS SERVING IN ALL CAPACITIES OF SECURITY OF OUT CITIZENS AROUND THE COUNTRY AND WORLD.

Hey Gore,

Not a day goes by when I don't think of you and the fun we had and how we would laugh at some of the things if you were still here. I miss you so much!!!!! Mom and dad are doing good. Mom is still driving me crazy with all her questions and correcting like she used to do to us. LOL!! Dad is still obsessed with golf and talking to the tv when Lebrons is playing. LOL!!! Cameron is growing into a big boy and is so handsome. He misses you truly. He talks about you all the time and can remember all the things that you guys did together. I'm teaching the little ones and pointing out the ones that I know you would have called your favorite, like you used to when you would come to my class. Keep looking over us like I know you are. Best friends forever. I LOVE YOU!!!

YOUR SIS,
Jessica

I never met you, but proud to know many fine Arlington Police Officers. May you find peace, and loved ones, at that sacred bridge. No one has come before you whom has died with more honor, or courage. You are an inspiration to those you leave behind, and a true American Hero. Thank you for your service and for giving the ultimate sacrifice so that others may live.
