Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

For Deputy Sheriff Ian Michael Deutch:

The risk that an officer on patrol takes is greater than almost any taken by others who defend our liberty, our freedom and our safety. Anybody who has served in this capacity full-well knows that one moment we can be engaged in something as routine as being seen wherever folks gather, and only minutes later be engaged in a fight for our lives. Sometimes we lose this life - for others.

Our brother Ian, a soldier-of-the-law, lived the double-life that many of us in law enforcement do both as a law officer and as a citizen soldier defending a nation in a military uniform. For Ian, that included a tour-of-duty fighting abroad. A double risk for a very much twice-brave American. Only our Creator knows why such a valued member of our nation and community would be called to Eternity so soon. It all seems so unfair. No only to Ian, but to so many others.

Our prayers are for Ian's family, friends, co-workers, fellow soldiers and all who care about him. May they be ready to step forward quickly at those times that surely will require immediate intervention. We pray for understanding at a time when perhaps not even one might be willing to try and understand.

As a brother law officer and a fellow soldier I proudly bear a final salute to Deputy Sheriff Ian Deutch.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennylvania State Police

My heart breaks at the tragic event which took place this week. Ian Deutch was a brave and honorable man. His memory will be treasured by many. My husband served with Ian in Afghanistan and he has adjusted very well upon arriving home, however, after yesterdays loss, my husband is in much turmoil over such senseless acts which should not have happened. A brave soldier serving his country, only to be taken by one of his own countrymen. It's devastating to say the least. God bless Ian's family and his brave and valiant soul.. forever.

America's greatest Heroes are those who put their personal lives on hold as they protect others, either through military service or as a first responder or, in some cases, as both. Deputy Sheriff Ian Michael Deutch shall remain a Hero in the hearts of those in Nevada and in the USA. Those same hearts are heavy with sorrow for his loved ones and our prayers are filled with thoughts for their well being.
