We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Detwiler and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Detwiler, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Deputy Detwiler is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family, and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

To officer Detwiler's wife and children:
My name is Patti Henry, I am the District Clerk of Chambers County. My husband is officer Tommy Henry of the Chambers County Sheriff Department and he worked with your husband on many occasions. I cannot tell you how sorry I am for you and your families loss. As the spouse of a law enforcement officer I know you are living your worst nightmare. I believe in God and that everything happens for a reason. I know there were numerous weapons and countless homemade bombs in that house and why would he have all of that if not to inflict pain on others. I can only believe that your husband's sacrifice saved lives. Even though we have never met officers wives are a community so I just want you to know that if you need ANYTHING! please email me. It could be a shoulder to cry on or a baby sitter so you can get away for a few hours. I know you have family and friends but sometimes it is easier to talk to a stranger and I am here for you. You can find me on the county website. I will pray for you and your children everyday. Sincerely, Patti L. Henry.

"My Brother"

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.

"We Remember the Officers"

We remember the officers who changed our lives,
The men and woman who protected us day and night,
People who respect for their dedication to the cause,
For when faced with danger, they never even pause.

We remember the officers who always stood true,
Whatever the color of uniform, brown gray or blue,
With pride and integrity they say "To serve and protect",
For the giving of their life, we offer our respect.

We remember the officers who we never really knew,
Persons strong enough to answer the challenge are few,
With heavy hearts we mourn the officers in eternal rest,
There's more to these people than the badge on their chest.

"I am a Trucker and a Viet Nam veteran from Ohio. I spent the night in the Mont Belvieu Conoco the night before Deputy Detwilers' funeral and was delayed from leaving by the funeral prosession. When I found out what the delay was, I was honored to stand by the Highway and salute this fallen Hero as the seemingly endless stream of vehicles rolled by. My deepest condolences to Mrs. Detwiler and her three beautiful children. I watched the channel 13 news video this evening and wept as that little four-yr old boy stood at his Mother's side while she eulogized her Hero. God BLess this beautiful family. You are in my prayers and a grateful nation shares your pain..."
