I knew Bill Hakim. Back in 2001, we unexpectedly dug up a box of dynamite on 20th Place in Corvallis, behind Woodstock's, during a storm water construction project. We called the Oregon State Police, and Bill Hakim showed up. Cool as a cucumber, he quickly and safely disposed of it. He told us it had probably been buried there by a farmer, decades earlier, long before Corvallis expanded out that far. Who would have thought that he only had seven more years to live? During his long and distinguished career, he must have been involved in many such stories, and touched many lives. Thank you, Bill. Rest in peace, my friend.
