To Officer Widman, family and the Fort Myers Police Department. I am so very sorry for your loss. Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. Words can not be offered to ease your sorrow and your pain, but know that there are citizens who truly care and have been devastated by this loss as well. You must have been a remarkable man and will never be forgotten. My prayers are with your family. Although your Earthly watch ended July 18, 2008, may you continue with your Heavenly watch over us from now on.

I honor you as I honor my dear friend Cpl. Steve Levy, New Jersey whose ended his watch October 21, 1999 and will never be forgotten as well.

Your entire family is in my thoughts and in my prayers. It's very tragic that he's gone, but at least you can be very proud of how he died unselfishly. I hope your faith in God is helping you through this very rough time in your lives.

Andrew Widman was my best friend within the state of Florida, and it was a pleasure and an honor to be his ward partner and work with him side by side. I have never worked with such a great guy, we would even show up at each others calls when it was something so simple just because. You've heard of the good cop bad cop, well i was always the good cop and he was always the BETTER cop. Ive never seen him loose his plesant attitude and the worse thing to date ive ever heard him say was "gosh darn it" followed by my personal favorite of "leapin lizzards!"

There were so many good times, from laughing at the funny calls and our late night coffee chats at work where we would discuss anything from weekend plans or devise a way to take over thailand and make it a resort.

He was such a great friend, even outside of work always offering to help people move, do whatever they needed, anything. Every holiday that passed he always made sure i was going to visit family or had family in the area, otherwise he would invite me to dinner - which is way above and beyond being a good friend.

It will never be the same, ever. And your not getting off this easy, it doesnt end here cause i will be writing much more.......

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Widman and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Widman, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Widman is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family, and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

For those who pledge to uphold it, Freedom requires a sacrifice the protected will never know.
