Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Corporal Courtney G. Brooks

My deepest thoughts and prayers are with Cpl. Brooks' children, fiancee', family, friends and co-workers. I was married to Alabama State Trooper Brian Nichols EOW 2/17/2002 and I am now married to Washington County Deputy Sheriff Aaron Carpenter. All of your COPS family is here for you and hurting for you. We all became a family when our loved ones became police officers and now we have even a stronger bond when one of our family members go down. We are here for you to help you along this journey you now have joined with us. God bless you all.

DON'T GRIEVE FOR ME

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path god laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard him call,
I turn my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Task left undone must stay that way,
I found that peace at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void,
Than fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Ah yes, these things I, too, will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow,
My life's been full, I savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.
Hope that these simple words can give everyone who knew Corporal Brooks,a little bit of comfort. It is so hard to come to this memorial and say some comforting words. The loved ones he has left behind, but also the small things. Seeing him put on his uniform, so proud to wear it. The jokes, the holidays gone by. The get togethers with other officer families.
WE WILL KEEP YOU IN OUR THOUUGTS AND PRAYERS. WE WILL NEVER FOR GET YOU.GOD BLESS YOU ALL

Courtney,
It was an honor and pleasure to work with you. You always had a way of making everyone laugh no matter what the situation. Thank you for your wonderful sense of humor and your wonder smile that would just make anyone laugh just to look at you. You will greatly missed but the memories of you will always be in my heart.

I had worked with you at BWI for a short time and found you to be a very energetic person. Always ready to go on the next call or to help someone in need. I am always sadden when any officer is called to make the extreme sacrifice. I pray that over time the loss will lessen, but I know this will be difficult. I have known too many of the MDTA officers who have left before their time. My heart and prayers go out to the family and I know that god will get them through this. I know that you and the other officers who have left us will guide us and protect us. I will miss you.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Cpl Brooks, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

On New Years Evening you were on duty keeping the citizens of Maryland safe, while they were enjoying themselves ringing in the new year. This is what "we" do. We keep others safe as they enjoy themselves. Your sacrafice shall not be forgotten. Rest in Peace.

Cpl. Brooks, I wish i could have known you better, I appreciate everything you have done. Your family and children will be in my heart always. Without sounding insensitive, Thank you for being a wake up call for me. As a midnight officer and highway officer in general you get so complacent with watching traffic zip behind you and forget that in a split second something such as this could happen. I now know the true price to my own mistakes. May God be with you and keep you.

I'd like to express my condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of Corporal Brooks. I pray that 2008 is a safer year for all of us in law enforcement after a terrible 2007. I hope the person who took Corporal Brooks from all of us pays a heavy price for what they've done. For the family of Corporal Brooks, stay strong and trust in God.....

As a wife of an officer, this is our worse fear. I'm so sorry that your family has to live through this pain. I only met Officer Brooks once or twice, but I knew who he was as soon as my husband gave me the news; that's the type of impression he left on me. To his fiancee and family; you may not know who we are all the time but you are constantly in our thoughts and in our prayers because we know that you would do the same for us.
Officer Brooks, may you rest in peace.
To all of his fellow officers, we love you and continue to pray that God keeps you safe.

Brooks,

You always brought a smile to everyone's face. Your wit and manners were a delight to all. You will be missed. Although we are left with the pain of what has happened, we have hope that your life is not over - but your true life has just begun.

You have now attained what each person strives for, hopes for, believes for and waits for - Eternal Life with our Father in Heaven. Although we, left here, can not understand "why?" and "why now?" - it is the Hope of Eternal Life in Christ that gets us through another day.

Be Blessed my friend. You can rest, knowing your family will be taken care of here.
