I miss you Brother. I am still trying to accept that the Good Lord called you. Our Unit will never be the same. You relieved us for years. Relief will be a somber moment from now on. We will never forget you.

I worked with Courtney when he came to the Tunnel Command and when he came over to CVSU. The times spent with him will never be forgotten he was a funny, caring guy. We would talk about everything and always share a laugh among fellow officers. His last night prior to going out to post we talked about his Christmas with his family, his pending engagement, and his good furtune with his lottery scratchoffs. The last thing he did before we both went out was befriend my Cadet whom he had never met but through Courtney's way of just being Courtney made a lifelong friendship and lasting impression on not only myself but a future police officer as well. God bless you Courtney you are gone from us but you will never be forgotten.

Officer Christopher Heisey
Maryland Transportation Authority Police Department

January 8, 2008

Courtney,

I hope all of us at CVSU made you very proud over the last couple of days. I must say that for the eight of us yesterday it was proudly the hardest things we ever had to do. It was something we felt that we owed you. If anyone was unsure of the bond that all of us in Metro have, they now know that we are a very strong family. Your family along with Susan's family truly made this so much easier for us.

We will all miss you but we will never forget you.

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police,
who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises
of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional
eyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for
investigation and wise judgement.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and
law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores,
strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences
with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not
always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so
pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the
devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your
heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the
throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all
the people. Amen.

Rest in peace Corporal Brooks

Courtney, Thank you! Almost 8 years ago I walked into the MDTA head quaters to sign my pappers to become an Officer. At 22 I was very nervous and did not know what to exspect. As I was sitting there I heard someone laughing and joking. Then you came through the door. You did not know me, however you made me feel comforteble. At that moment I realized that you can do this job and have fun. For the past few nights I have been on a " Detail " at your sisters house. During this time I came to realize that you truley are blessed. Your family is great and after speaking with many of them I now can rest knowing that you are in a better place. Take care my friend we will never forget...

We have lost yet another loved one from our beloved family, lost physically but never emotionally or spiritually. Courtney will always be with us and his sacrifice will never be forgotten. I will always remember that special handshake followed with a hug and then a funny comment. I will cherish this past Christmas we all spent together as a family and I will never forget how happy you were when you got your new plush black robe. I love you man. Rest in Peace.

I want to personally thank all the men and women of the Maryland Transportation Authority Police Department for everything you have done to make this difficult time a little easier for the family. No request was too small or too big. They were always right there to serve us. The funeral services today were so moving that it took my breath away on numerous occasions. It was definitely a funeral fit for a hero like Courtney and I know that he was looking down on us all today saying “What, that’s all for me? I gotta get my camera?” The attendance from all the different law enforcement agencies, Fire & Rescue, State Highway Administration and Friends was beyond belief. Thank you all again for everything you have done as well as for everything you do.

God Bless,
