Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Nicki James "Nick" Erfle

Of all the things I still remember
Summer's NEVER looked the same
The years go by and time just seems to fly
but the memories remain

"September" by Daughtry

As I reflect back on the 3 years since you were taken from us, indeed things will never again be the same. The fun times and laughs we shared, still make it all worthwhile. Rest easy pal, you are thought of everyday.

Dear Julie,
My company is a sponsor of the 100 Club, so I receive the e-newsletter, where I just read your beautiful speech. I was so touched, and am still crying. Like so many people, when your husband was killed, I read that he left behind a wife and two children, and winced...but did not know anything about you. Now that I do, I am just aching for your loss. I have never experienced a loss like yours, but am the mother of two boys - 3 yrs old and and 18 mos...and cannot imagine what I would do if someone took my husband from us. My wish for you is that your pain is lessening with time, although it certainly will never go away. I guess I just wanted you to know that people out there who do not know you or Nick are thinking about you, rooting for you. I send you a piece of my heart.
With love,
Laura

Dear Mrs. Erfle,
To you and the boys, I offer my sincerest condolences for your loss of Nick three year ago now. We are not acquainted and I never met Nick in life, and I am not with law enforcement. To be sure, I am someone who has occasionally been found in the back seat of a police car. But human tragedy and loss are things known to all of us as much as compassion and empathy always should be. I was in that area the morning of Sept. 18, 2007, and observed from a distance the chaos, confusion, but also the absolute urgency and dedication employed in assisting Nick by the officers and citizens who were at the scene. Watching people work so hard to help a fellow human being makes one proud to be part of the human race. But in a world that demanded Nick place himself in harm's way as a standard of his job takes away too much from that pride.

Dear Sir,

From the opposite corner of our beloved country, I applaud your AZ lawmakers as they pass laws to protect all of us, and to let your sacrifice be worth so much. May you continue to rest easy, and may your family find hope and comfort in their state continuing your fight...

Every time I get into a patrol car at the Peak, I see your sticker in the back window and I think of you and your family. Your loss was so needless, so unneccesary. I was in the middle of transferring to Phoenix PD from a different agency within the state when you were murdered. Because of the circumstances, and because of your family, your death hit very close to home. I often drive by 24th St. and E. Thomas and think of you. Rest in peace. We will keep fighting the good fight, even if it is an uphill battle. Thank you for your service.

Hey pal. Thought of you more than usual yesterday. Speaking to the county attorney on a case and he asked if you were my partner for awhile. He remembered my name and yours together on all those drug cases. Wouldnt you know, later in shift, I found my first occupied stolen since we were seperated. It's still difficult when all the "firsts" come up without you. Scars are trophies you never lose. We all miss you and obviously always will. Rest easy buddy.
