Rest in peace brother!

Officer Erfle,

You and your fellow brothers and sisters in blue are true heroes. It is with heavy hearts that the law enforcement family of the State of Arizona wears their shrouds on their badges in your honor. You will deeply be missed by the community you swore to serve. I was a Phoenix Explorer in Maryvale, when we lost Officer Atkinson to the same demise. My deepest condolences go out to his wife and family, as well as his precinct and squadmates.

We often wonder why our brothers and sisters are taken from us so early in life. I have come to understand that God has a bigger role for them to play in our lives. They become our Guardian Angels, protecting us until it's our time to join them. My heartfelt condolences to his Family, our extended Family.

Nick, I didn't know you personally but I know you through a dear friend we both share - Officer McKarns. He spoke very highly of you and deeply cherished the friendship and brotherhood you shared. His loss is my loss and I know God is holding you close to his heart for touching so many lives in your lifetime. God be with you and your family and thank you for your duty to all of us!

I was sitting in the doctor's office with my wife for our last visit before our baby was born when my buddy, who also works 700 with you, sent me the message that you were killed. I do not know you but was truly saddened to hear what happened. Our job creates a unique closeness amongst each other. Today is your funeral but because of my new baby I cannot make the trip down. It's a fight that seems we always lose, trying to make the places we work safer. I'm really at a loss for words Nick. I'm proud of your courage and am grateful for your valor. You leave a legacy behind for your family and friends. Watch over us my friend.

It was with a heavy heart that I prepared my uniform tonight to wear in your honor to say goodbye to a HERO. It is not fair that we just said goodbye to another HERO less than 2 months ago.
Even though we have never met thank you for the great job and scarifice you gave for our city and our department. You did us proud. Your wife, children, and the people of Squaw Peak will be in my prayers especially as we struggle to get through tomorrow.
We will continue to protect the CITIZENS of Phoenix.
Goodnight Sir,
Rest in Peace.

Nick-Ron and I were on our much anticipated honeymoon when the news reached us in Italy. We flew back early to be here to honor you on Monday. It is with extremely heavy hearts that we war the shrouds over our badges. We hardly have the words to say Goodbye to such a valiant warrior. After you battled cancer and being there when we ran the Rock and Roll Marathon, it hardly seems possible you won't be cheering us from the sidelines. We love and miss you, but know we will see you again one day.
