I was very uspet when I heard of your tragic encounter with this predator. He was a coward and had to ambush you and the 3 others. Thank god your Metro Dade brothers were able to locate him before he could hurt anyone els. Now he cant hurt anyone anymore. There are no words that can help during a situation so I can just promise your family and co-workers that I will continue to do the best I can to hunt these predators so they cant hurt good people like you. R.I.P. my brother and God Bless your family ......

To his wife, children, and family: I met Jose through a friend when he was working midnights and later got to know him more as I ran into him at the station or on the streets. Jose liked to joke around and laugh about many things that went on at work. He always smiled when I asked him about his kids and would tell me how much he loved them.
As a father of a two year old, I felt I had something in common with him so I would share my personal experiences about fatherhood. He was a smart cop who knew his job and
was also liked by my friends and others. I will always remember him and wished I could of been there for him. May God bless all of you allways.

This reflection is written in HONOR OF OFFICER JOSE SOMOHANO. There are times in our lives that we question things that we don't understand but, everything serves a purpose in our lives. Officer Somahano you served a purpose in every life that you touched rather personal or business. The time came for God to say " MY SON JOB WELL DONE." It is time for you to patrol Heavens Gates for other Angels that God is calling home. I know that you will do an excellent job in Heaven beacuse, you did an excellent job for The Miami Dade Police Department. Rest In Peace Until We Meet Again.....

I still can't believe it, how anyone can do such a thing. I remember countless times sitting next to you during our rephase meetings, and you helping us with the practicums for the cadets. You had a gift and you shared it with us all. You loved your job and you were a natural. You taught this to all of the Officers that you trained and I know that they will forever keep that in their hearts. Thank you so much for blessing us and giving us the opportunity to learn so much from you. I can't even imagine how hard this is going to be for your family but I do know that your fellow brothers and sisters will do everything in their power to do as you would have done for any of us. You may have passed but you did with honor and courage. Not many would have gone that extra step, and you did. Thank you for protecting us, for you truly did serve and protect.

Jose,

Most of us here knew you only as a unit or badge number, but some of us were fortunate to have briefly met you in person on one of your visits to Communications.

On Thursday September 13th, one of our biggest fears was realized when the words "Officers down" were heard over the air.

The impressive response, determination and resolve of EVERYONE from the department and the multitude of agencies from South Florida, from the time the call went out, to the conclusion of the pursuit and the ongoing investigations would have made you proud. But sadly, we were unable to return you safely home that day.

We will mourn the loss of a truly good officer for many months to come, but you will NEVER be forgotten!
