I am very sorry about what happened. He will be greatly missed. Even though I didn't know him he will always have a place in my heart. I know how you feel because I lost my only brother five years ago of cancer his name was William Faus Jr. of the Elkhart Police Department. Everyday officers risk their lives to help somebody and then this tragedy happens. The police department and the family will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,
Heather

I am deeply sorry for Nick's loss. Just being my brothers partner makes him a very special individual. Having spent a year in Iraq with Michael, I know the affect such dangers has on ones family and friends. I was there and still feared for Michael daily, I can imagine how those at home felt. My heart goes out to each and every one of the family, friends and co-workers. My deepest condolences are extended to all. Thank you all for the support given my brother as well. That means alot to him and us.

The Following is a "Line of Duty" Prayer sent by a New York PD officer:

In the Line of Duty
I never dreamed it would be me.
My name for all Eternity.
Recorded here at this hallowed place.
Alas,my name, no more my face.
"In the Line of Duty" I hear them say.
My family now the price to pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears.
We only had those few short years.
The badge no longer on my chest.
I now sleep in eternal rest.
My sword I pass to those behind.
And pray they keep this thought in mind.
I never dreamed it would be me.
And with a heavy heart and bended knee.
I ask for all here from the past....
Dear God, let my name be the last (author unknown)

Corporal Polizzotto,
In the past two years, I have spent a lot of time in South Bend. My Fiancee lives in Niles, Michigan so she is only a few minutes away. Whenever we go out on the town in South Bend, I always feel safe walking the streets. It is men like you who give me that feeling of comfort. You are a true hero and I pray that your family and friends take comfort in that during their time of sorrow. Thank you for all you have done. Rest in Peace, you are with God now.

Less than two years ago, we lost a wonderful person, friend and dedicated Police Detective (Lavern Brann) while he and fellow Detective Greg Huggett were attempting to interogate an individual at his apartment bldg. The shots rang out killing Lavern and injuring Greg. We will NEVER FORGET and we're all still learning to live with the disbelief of it all. God bless Officer Polizzotto's dear family, friends, co-workers and fellow officers through this extremely difficult time ahead.

I can't begin to tell the South Bend Police Department how sorry I am that they are going through this terrible tragedy once again. I know several of the officers at the department, special crimes and the county. My heart goes out to each and everyone of you who lay your lives on the line each and every day to do what you love doing and I am thankful for each one of you. May God Bless you and comfort you all during this terrible time. We will certainly be thinking of you in the days to come. Dee, South Bend.
