Reflections for Corporal Nick Samuel Polizzotto

A senseless act of violence has taken the life of another brother officer. To the family, friends, and co-workers of Corporal Polizzotto and on behalf of the Evansville Police Department and law enforcement community, our deepest condolences.

Officer Steve Hicks
Evansville Police Dept Evansville, IN

Our prayers go out to you and yours. It seems too many good men are lost, but never forgotten. Every day I read The Officer Down Memorial Page, praying not another. Every night when my husband leaves our home I kiss him, tell him how much I love and adore him, and pray everytime I think of him for his safe return home to our family. Not only for him but for all. We never forget what our heros do. We thank God for men and women like you, and your families who make such a sacrific for others. May God carry you and yours at this most difficult time.

Nick,
I knew you from all the years of working at the hospital and seeing you when you would bring someone in. I'll never forget your smile. It is unfathomable that your EOW is so close to Scott's. I pray for your family, friends and LEO family as the next few days, weeks and months are so very difficult. God Bless You.

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Rest in peace my brother we'll take the watch from here.

Schlick -

This is just so surreal, and I am having such a hard time accepting this. Yes, I know you are in a better place, but I want to be selfish. I want you back here, with us. Never again will I hear that wonderful deep voice of yours over the radio, or see those beautiful blue eyes. The laughs we shared, the pact we made between each other, will always be in my heart. Aaahhh, the coat. Forever will I cherish it, and never be cold in dispatch again! Unfortunately I know life must go on, but it is getting harder and harder with the brothers we are losing.
I know this is not goodbye, for we will all be together on the other side.
I love you, my brother.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Corporal Polizzotto, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

When I heard of the sad news, it just felt like my heart had been ripped out, again. I just wish that we as citizens would take just a minute to say, "thank you" when you see an offier out doing his job or getting a cup of coffee. Don't wait until something like this happens.
My heart and prayers are with the family, and especially his little boy, who has now been left without a father.

I keep asking myself "why another one?" but in my heart, I know the answer is " because someone has to protect us".
My heart just hurts for yet another South Bend policeman, another family, another child left behind to mourn, another showing of the black bands and flags on police cars; another flag at half mast.
My deepest sympathy to the South Bend Police Department, the family of Nick Polizzotto and to the people of South Bend who lost another best and brightest.

To the family, friends and fellow officers of Cpl. Nick Polizzotto - There are no words kind enough to comfort you during this time. This brave officer dedicated his life to his family and his department. He has paid the ultimate sacrifice and we are forever in-debt to him. May you rest in peace Nick and God be with you.
Blessed are the peacemakers:
for they shall be called the children of God.
