Rest in peace brother.

It was exactly 21 days since I watched a brother of mine laid to rest. It was exactly 20 days since I watched another brother of mine which I knew personally laid to rest. Today I mourn the loss of another Brother which I also knew. The loss of this Officer and the wounding of another is tragic. Your Department and your area have given so much in the last several years. My thoughts along with those of the Officers of The Madison Police Department go out to you in this time of greatest loss.

I did not know Corporal Polizzotto, but I am assuming, Tony, that from his picture, he has to be your brother. I know you from Ball State and it sounds like Nick was a wonderful human being and as nice as I remember you to be. I was so sad to hear of this and my family and I are praying for your family. Both of my younger brothers were police officers, now retired, I know the fear of wondering what is happening during an incident when all you hear is vaque information from the news media.

You had the most fabulous blue eyes. I think they were extra-sparkly when you looked at Joe. You gave him your best qualities.

Remember how we could laugh at the silliest things and people thought we were both nuts? To say that opposites attract would've been an understatement for us. You taught me that is was OK to "run" a yellow light. I taught you that kitties are angels on earth. You showed me that dogs are good pets. I helped you uncover your love of soap operas.

The rest of your secrets are safe with me.

My heartfelt condolences go to the family, friends and co-workers of Corporal Nick Polizzotto. I feel that he was a hero, not only on the force but in his personal life. It is so hard to say good-bye to someone who will be missed so profoundly. My thoughts and prayers are with you today and always. I know your pain, I too lost a son.

Broken Chain

We little knew that morning,
God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly,
in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you,
you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.

"My Brother"

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.

Rest easy Brother Polizzotto, we have the watch...

”I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

You answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice. Rest easy in God's kingdom and watch over us as we continue the battle here on earth!!!

I've know Nick since he came on but unfortunately did not get to work with him too much. I worked afternoons and he was on midnights. Every time I saw him, he always seemed to have a smile on his face and that is how I would like to remember him. God bless you Nick! You were a great officer and will be missed! My thoughts and prayers go out to Nick's family! All of the officers are here for your family and to help out in anyway.

I am so very sorry for your loss. We are all feeling your pain as we just went through this one year ago. I think that we should also keep Patrolman Michael Norby in our prayers as well. I cannot begin to imagine what he must be feeling. Yes he's going to be okay physically but he must feel like the world is riding on his shoulders. I will always have Cpl. Scott Severns, Cpl. Nick Polizzotto, Ptl. Michael Norby, and all the other officers around the world that protect us a day to day basis in my prayers. Thank you to all that have gave your life protecting me and all the ones that are still protecting me.

Our deepest sympathy to Nick's family, his friends, and all his co-workers (both officers and civilians). Nick had a great attitude, was thorough with his job and I found it a blessing to be a co-worker of his. He was always kind and respectful of others. He will be dearly missed and in our prayers, as well as, all of you. May God bless you and comfort you in this time, and keep you safe. May your memories of Nick in time exceed your sorrow now.
