When dispatched to a call or doing a traffic stop, there is always a small fear of the unknown for an officer, but that fear is always placed aside and duty always comes first.
A Law Enforcement Officer does not choose thier job, it is chosen for them. It is part of them from the moment they are brought in to the world. They are truly a very special group of people.

I want to thank Sergeant Nicholas G. Sottile for the un-selfish act of patroling the highways and protecting me when I travel. I would like to also thank his family for being so giving to the great state of Florida and sharing this wonderful man with us all. It is never a good thing when the world looses someone, but when a true un-sung hero is lost we all greive for the loss.
Our prays and thoughts are with the family

I will pray for Officer Sottile's family. I was so sad to hear of this awful tragedy that took the life of one of Florida's Law Enforcement Officers. My parents live in Lake Placid. the town in which Sgt. Sottile was murdered and they actually knew him personally. It is even sadder to know that he only had a year left until retirement having already faithfully and courageously served the public for 24 years. It is a COMFORT to know Sgt. Sottile was a Christian and is now serving "Our Lord and Savior - Jesus Christ" in Heaven. Thank you Sgt. Sottile for your dedication and your ultimate sacrifice for the public.

To the Wife and children of yet another fallen officer and Hero, my heartfelt condolences to you all. There doesn't seem to be the right words to say at times like this but you have joined a family of fallen officers families and we are family now and we have to watch out for each other.I will say though that law enforcement must really run in families like ours because I have two sons who are 15 and 17 and they want to follow in their dads footsteps and become fellow law enforcement officers and finish up what their dad started, so your son also must be a special kind of person. Please accept my families condolences and please know your family will be in our thoughts and prayers especially these next few days. God Speed You dear Sgt. Sottile and now you will be allowed to patrol the fine golden streets in heaven like so many other fallen heroes. God Bless You, Christy Rios and children of fallen officer Ray M. Rios Jr. E.O.W. 9/4/05
