Reflections for Corporal Michael Douglas Young

Mike,
Came by to see you at the hospital before I left for Alaska. The doctor's all had hopes that you would be O.K. and I left with a good feeling. I got the call two days later that you had gone to be with the lord. I won't fuss but you owe me one big boy. Thanks for a great job.
God's speed my friend...

Mike & I became friends as Martha and I became friends. They both helped me through a very difficult time in my life and later shared the most precious times of my life..Mike gave me away as I married my husband and Martha & Mike both were part of the birth ou our first child together. To say the least, Mike was a special friend,Father figure,Christian brother and a great listener. He will forever have a special place in our hearts as he shared some of the most precious moments of our life and I can say that I was truly blessed by God to have called him, my friend. I will always love him & Martha and be grateful to them for seeing me through soem of the deepest waters I had to cross. Heaven is much brighter with you and you truly left a legacy....

I do not know Mr. Young personally, but as I read the reflections on this memorial page, my eyes began to tear up. I am a Trooper in Oklahoma, but my home is in Cecil, Ga. Every time I hear of a Trooper or fellow law enforcement officer being killed, it touches my heart, especially if they are from Ga. or Oklahoma. I would like to thank Cpl. Young for his service to the State of Ga. and the U.S. I would also like to ask God to bless his family, and to protect them. I would also like to ask God to help Mr. Young's family in dealing with his absence, and look forward to seeing him in the future.

--"If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded." -- Maya Angelou

Aloha Corporal Michael Douglas Young,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum of the ODMP light. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here. That "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is an hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find comfort as we give comfort to the families who have lost a loved one.

As we say in Hawaii, “We are`Ohana.” We are family. God Bless this fallen hero. May we embrace him as one of our own family member; our `Ohana. No one
will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace.

Corporal Michael Douglas Young, I wish you, your loved ones, your fellow officers, and friends, peace and love beyond all understanding.

--- May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. ---

THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,

Today I heard a funny story and immediately thought of calling you to share it. Time will never erase the friendship and camaraderie we shared for many years. You have been an inspiration to me as a fellow Trooper, friend and Christian. We cried together, laughed together and stood in the gap when times were tough. I'll never forget your courage and strength in times of crisis. I miss our talks about our faith in God and the long talks we had about our families. We will keep your family close in our brotherhood and endeavor to see that no harm ever befalls them. For those who never knew you, they've missed a blessing.
I love you MadDawg and miss you every day, especially on I-95 where we used to stalk the "bad guys" and worked so hard to keep America safe. I remember God's promise and with that hope, I know I'll join you again someday.

Those of us that were fortunate enough to know Mike, know the emptiness that I feel with his passing. If you were his friend, he made you feel like his best freind, and for knowing him, we all became better people. If you had the pleasure of working with him, you knew that he would always be at your side, no matter what. He was a total trooper.........the ultimate in every way. Beyond this, though,....he was a total human being. He was someone who knew exactly where he was in life, and he knew where he was headed. In 1996, Mike and I were partners on The Olympic Torch Relay, which wound its way across the country over a three month period. I loved his sense of humor. We made each other laugh all the time. He was one of the wittiest people I have ever known. I still find myself wanting to blurt out one of Leslie Neilsen's lines from The Naked Gun when I walk past his office, thinking that he'll be in that familiar spot in front of the computer. It's been over a month since his passing, and we are still very numb. Mike, I will continue to miss you. Please watch over us down here, and we will continue to watch over your family, as they will always be a part of the blue and gray. I love you, and I will see you again.

Where can one start? It's amazing that someone that you have known for oh so long (1995 Glynn County Police Department to present McIntosh County Sheriff Department) is now gone. A great man is all that one can say. You are truly missed. My prayers are with your family.

Well Dog I hope your doing well in your new home. I know your in good hands now.

I can't count the times you have showed up on the scene and lended a hand to help others out. You could always be counted on when we needed you. I especially remember the times you showed up and worked that wreck for me. Thank you again brother.

I remember the times I would hear that little chuckle when you would find something funny. You were fine example of a trooper and most of all a person.

Mike I hope you keep a look out on all of us left down here to try to fill your shoes, they are some big ones to fill. You will be greatly miss by all of us.

Maddog rest in peace, and I will see again one day.

My husband and I, along with our children were vacationing on Jekyll Island on August 19, 2006 when we learned of Corporal Youngs accident. We never had the privilege of meeting him but it has touched my heart in a special way. My husband graduated on August 18, 2006 as a new State Trooper (717) and only a week ago I had the privelege of meeting Corporal Young's sister, Cathy Hall. She attended our festival in Lumber City. My husband and I will continue to pray for the family and ask God's blessing upon each of you.

Dear Family, Co-Workers, and Friends,
It is never easy to put one of our loved ones to rest. Rest-a-sure he is in a better place. Find comfort in the memories that you have of Corporal Young. He was loved by many and he made a difference for the citizens of Georgia. Lean on each other on the tough days that are ahead. Mike,
I never had the pleasure of meeting you but I did attend your funeral as the wife of a leo and leo support (911 dispatcher). You were and still are a very loved and respected man and trooper. God must have had a plan for you that was greater than our plan here on earth.
To the loved ones who are left to grieve, I know that there are no words that can ease the hurt and pain, and although they say times lessens the pain, I do not know that to be true .Just take one day at a time and know that he loves you and is watching over you from his beat in heaven. God bless all of you.

Well Dawg,

It's been nearly two weeks since you have gone on to be with the Lord and I still can't it. Everyday I expect to meet #674 on Perry Lane road and wave at each other as we passed. I will miss that.
Mike, I can't say enough about the service. I remember how we used to drive to "the four corners" of Georgia with the Honor Guard to honor our fallen brothers. Well Mike, it was your time to be honored, and you would have been proud. Grady, Keith, Ben, Stacy, Dan and all of the rest of the team did an oustanding job as usual. I remember when you presented the flag to my mother at my father's service. I will never forget how you helped me through that rough time in my life. Now, I will be there for Martha, Mickey, and Morgan.
Mike, you were so many things to me; my FTO, my co-worker, my Honor Guard brother, my mentor, but most importantly, my friend. I will never forget how you helped me make a tough decision when I decided that it was time for me to leave the patrol. You always knew the right things to say. I and many others will miss those talks. You will never be forgotten, but you will always be missed. I love you my brother and will always miss you. But, as the Dawg would say:

"Make No Mistake"

... one day I will meet you on the other side!

DOC,

I CAN'T START TO SAY ON HOW MUCH THAT I WILL MISS YOU. I CAN REMBER THE TIME THAT WE SAT IN THE MEDIAN OF I-95 AND TALKED ABOUT THE GSP, FAMILY PROBLEMS AND ALWAYS AT THE END WE WOULD TALK ABOUT THE LORD. THOSE TIMES WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. YOU WAS A TRUE FRIEND AND WILL BE MISSED GREATLY.

MARTHA, MORGAN AND MICKEY MY HEART GOES OUT TO YOU AND I WILL KEEP YOU ALL IN MY PRAYERS.

Mike,
It was indeed a honor and priviledge to have had the opportunity to work with you and make your aquantance. You will be sorely missed by all that have ever known you. The state of Georgia is is in deed poorer for having lost you.
While those of us that remain mourn in your passing, it is comforting to know that you are now in the presence of our lord. God bless and good night our brother.
