Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Corporal Michael Douglas Young

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Corporal Young, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Michael, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Michael's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Michael's life was about so much more than the way he died. Michael will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Corporal Young, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three and a half years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Mike,
It was both an honor and priviledge to have known and worked with you at FLETC during the late 80's/ early 90's.
It was so nice to see and work with you again last year(when Deputy Billington's car was struck by a passing motorist just in FL) and catch up on "old times etc..."
You were always the commensurate professional and just an all around "great guy". You always had positive things to say about even the worst of situations and the most aggravating people! I know that you are with the LORD and that your brothers and sisters in CHRIST will see you again. May GOD bless you, your family, and your fellow GSP Troopers!
Respectfully, I remain,
Chris

We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

I received notice from the Georgia Department of Public Safety Death Benefit Fund regarding Cpl. Mike Young's passing.
I have been a member of the DPS DBF since I was 18 years old and joined the Georgia State Patrol. I spent only a few years with the GSP and ended up working the last 30+ years of my state law enforcement career with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. There were many times that I did not think I would make it to the full 34 years retirement.
I've gotten use to reading DBF notices of men and women who gave a lifetime of service to the citizens of the Great State of Georgia. I hate to receive notices of great police like Mike who died before they can know there is life after law enforcement.
Those 3 years on the GSP taught me many lessons and most of my friends will tell you that I consider myself to bleed blue and gray when injured. I still vividly remember driving that first blue and gray patrol car. I know that the men and women of the GSP are hurting due to the loss of Mike, but he is in a better place and we will see him again one day.
To the Young family -- thank you for allowing Mike to be one of my brothers in law enforcement. He will be deeply missed. God Bless your family and all the men and women working in law enforcement, all public safety personnel and our military men and women.
