Mrs. Sutphin, The Sutphin Family and to his brothers and sisters at the MCSO,

Please accept my sympathy and prayers for you all at this difficult time. It is hard to make sense when an Officer is so suddenly taken from us. It is even harder when you have had the priviledge and honor to have served with them. 1987-1988 USAFS Sinop, Turkey. He was then Sgt. Sutphin USA Military Police. I was a PFC. He was the best squad leader I ever had. He led with patience, I know I tested it a couple times. I'll never forget his constant half-smile and his frequent good humor. When I decided not to re-enlist some leaders told me I'd never work in law enforcement, not Sgt. Sutphin. He told me I would, He encouraged me to believe I could. He had my back before I even began my career. He and his wife helped make an unpleasant tour of duty a whole lot easier for our entire platoon. Although that was 18 years ago, I say Thank you now, wish I would've stayed in touch, as these words I write should've been shared back then.

I am thankful I was blessed with the priviledge of knowing you.

Bloomington Police Department. IN

CPL. Sutphin. We didn't know each other but it seemed as if every few years I've been going to Montgomery County to pay my respects. First Terry Griffith, then a few years ago Scott Hylton. It looks like Terry and Scott have you to help them out now.

Several years ago you didn't give up,you fought through it and made the world safer for your sacrifice. Go rest easy, we'll try to measure up to you.

The thoughts of the Mercer County Sheriff's Department and the entire law enforcement family next door in WV. go out to the family of CPL. Sutphin, his co-workers and those who will fill in those big footprints you left behind.

CPL. J. E. Coulter

We here at the Canon City Internet Radio, send our deepest condolences and our prayers to the wife, daughters, loved ones, and sisters and brothers who wear the badge of law enforcement. It is hard to comprehend that Corporal Sutphin was shot down in such a cowardly act. There isn't enough words for comfort at this great loss.
"A Part Of America Died,"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.

Coorporal Sutphin you will always be an American Hero you gave your all.
