Deputy
Broome Co. Sheriffs Office - Binghamton NY

August 21, 2006

My God, we've lost another hero to senseless violence at the hands of the filth in which those of us in law enforcement often find ourselves dealing with.....

My deepest thoughts go to the your family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time.

I wish I could have been there with you today-we would have taken the man down together, or fallen alongside each other while trying.

Thank you for you service and sacrifice!

Salute

P.O.-Michigan

To the family, friends, and co-workers of Corporal Sutphin; we were saddened to learn of your sacrifice today. You must have been an outstanding officer of the law. The place where you gave your final sacrifice is only about 45 minutes from our Sheriff's Office, and we were all stunned to see the news this morning. Rest easy and know that the coward who took you from this world will be brought to justice one way or another. I wish that my ERT team were called out to help assist with the search. Trust that we will find the suspect, we'll see you on the other side.

Deputy Aaron W. Williams #632
Roanoke County Sheriff's Office Va.

Corporal Sutphin, based on what's been written about you during your career, you are the definition of the word hero.
I'm sure you were looked up to by your fellow officers. New officers were probably told, when it gets real bad,you want Sutphin with you.We all hope that when trouble comes,we will be able to respond
as capably and bravely as you did.

Corporal Bruce McMicking
Tega Cay Police Department, SC

Rest in Peace my brother! I am so sorry to hear about Deputy Sutphin's death today. The line is a little thinner once again. I said a prayer for his family and fellow deputies in Montgomery County. God Bless You.

Master Deputy Reuben Black
Greenville County Sheriff's Office

I was shocked to learn today of the death of Eric Sutphin. I was one of his Field Training Officers when he came to the Charlottesville Police Department in 1992. He was truly a dedicated law enforcement officer and a proven hero in his last lethal force encounter. Sadly, God has chosen in his infinite order over things to take Eric from us. God Bless you Eric and your family in this trying time. Rest easy Brother.

May God watch over your family during this terrible time.

Rest in peace.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Corporal Sutphin.

While no one who wears a badge wants to be put into such a situation, you put yourself into the line of fire to protect those whom you might not have even known despite the danger. While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven.

Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

The deputy stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his boots were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, deputy.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The deputy squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the county was awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the deputy waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, deputy,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

My heart goes out to your family and your department.
