Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Scott Alan Wertz

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Scott and his brothers and sisters in uniform. Keep Scott's spirit alive as deep as it was reflected these past few days. To the City of Reading, remember this hero at the field where his spirit thrilled so many people. Re-Name Angelica Park to The Scott A. Wertz mMemorial Park, so that his children can not only remember a great father, hero in uniform, but also a true sportsman.

I would like to thank God for Scott's help in an attempt to keep the street where I live and work safe. Without men like Scott, I don't think I could go outside, day or night. Thanks to Scott and his brothers in arms, we are able to enjoy another day's breath...I feel extreme pain and sorrow for his family, but know that they can certainly revere his name and be proud of all he accomplished for them and for the City and citizens of Reading. I salute you, Scott.

Please know that your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Anytime we hear of something like this happening it just breaks our hearts that another family has to go through the unthinkable. I don't think anyone at times like this knows the right things to say or do for you because all you want is for them to come home. Try to stay strong for one another and know that your husband and father will always be in your heart. That is something that can never be taken from you. God Bless you and your family.

To the wertz family,
We just wanted to express are deepest sympathy over the loss of Scott. He played softball with Terry for many years. To the Wertz family, I just wanted to leave my sincere condolences...such ashame to hear of an officer die on the streets, when all he is trying to do is keep the peace... My heart goes out to the wife who now has to weather the storm without her beloved, and to the children who will experience this time full of sorrow and disappointment but with the most love and encouragement your heart can stand...In all that you do know that The Lord will see you through this...you are not alone...God said that He would be with you even until the end...Know that your father, husband, friend , brother, and son loved you and that he did the work of a man who was concerned for other people....

To scott and his family,

I am 23 and moving to Albany, Ny in december to take a position with thier police department, and although i am not yet a certified police officer, i feel like i have already lost a brother in blue. Scott you gave the ultimate sacrifice to fulfill your duties on the job and no-one can ever you say did less. I did not know you personally but i know many other officers in Reading and not one could ever think of a moment where you werent pushing yourself too 110%. I can only hope that my future fellow officers put the same dedication into protecting others and the law as you did, I would be honored to work with someone of your stature.
To scott's family,
I can only imagine what you may be going through right now. I myself am affected by this tragedy. My best wishes go out to his wife and two sons, Know that while we lost a great father, friend, and officer, heaven as gained a angel and scott is watching over all of us now.

Dear Officer Wertz,
Dear Wertz Family,
I did not know officer Wertz but am very sad that something this horrible can happen in our community (I live in Allentown- not far away at all).
There is nothing I can say to ease your broken hearts but I can assure you that not only are all your neighbors outraged, angry, and scared of the evil that's out there, but we are terribly sad as well. To see someone who was working to protect us taken away so heartlessly, quickly, and senselessly affects us deeply. By the grace of God, somehow change will come about as a result of Officer Wertz's service and his tragic death.
God bless you Mrs Wertz and sons. Your husband/father was/is a hero.

To the Wertz family:

My heart and prayers go out to you. My husband lost his step father in 2004 in an on duty motorcycle accident. We lost a father, a husband, a father in law and a pop-pop. I am a teacher in the city of Reading and I have great faith in our law enforcement. I am sure that Scott was a wonderful man and loved what he did for our city. May peace be with you in this tragic time.

Although I did not have the honor of meeting Officer Wertz, I need to express my sympathy to his family. His life, undoubtedly, touched many and in his ultimate sacrifice I find my life personally touched. My heart feels heavy for his fellow officers, friends, and family members who are grieving today and for many days to come. With the utmost respect,I thank the entire Berks County police force for their committment, their bravery, and dedication to the citizens of this county.
