Reflections for Police Officer Scott Alan Wertz

The city of Reading will always remember you!!!

August 9, 2006

Dear Wertz Family,
I did not know you but have heard such great thing about you and your family through fellow officer that are mourning your death. You truely were a outstanding hero, father, husband, and friend to all that know you, in and out of uniform. It is such a shame to go out and do what you love and be rewarded in this fashion, NO ONE deserves this. I pray for you and your family, and to the fellow officers in Reading and everywhere in the world. God bless and take care to the Wertz family and friends.
My deepest condolenses.

Scott, may God Bless You and keep you. You were a wonderful friend to my husband, Javy. He misses you deeply as many of us do. You will always remain in our hearts and minds. Thank you ever so much for your dedication in protecting our City and serving the community. You are truly a "Hero" and I am so glad I had the privilege of knowing you. Our prayers go out to your wife and children for they are enduring what other officers' wives hope they never have to endure. You were a guardian of the people here on earth, which was proven during your funeral procession today. Now God has appointed you as a guardian angel in heaven and I know you'll do it as well as you did it here. Rest in peace. We love you!

To the Wertz family,
Words won't help the sacrifice you have made. Rest assured your husband and father died doing what he loved, being a cop and helping the unknown victim. Your husband and father is a hero. I am deeply saddened and overwhelmingly sorry for the loss of this brave soldier.

Scotty,
It's hard to believe that you were just in our office last Thursday, cracking us up as usual! I'm blessed to have gotten to know such a funny & wonderful guy like you over the past few years. May God give your family the strength to get through this, and not to dwell on the tragedy of your death but instead to celebrate and remember your life.

My uncle was a member of the Reading Police Force until his death approximately 25 years ago, and my father was a Pennsylvania State Constable for many years until his retirement. Although I did not know Officer Wertz, I'd like to extend warm prayers and caring thoughts to all who did know him and to all members of law enforcement on this sad occasion.

Scott,
It has been an honor and privilege to have worked with you in auto theft cases, trained with you at IAATI and ATPA conferences, and to have been your friend and brother in law enforcement. You will always be remembered. God bless you and God be with your wife, children, and entire Reading law enforcement family.

Officer Scott Wertz,
I really do not know you and your family. But I met you before I dont remember where it was at. But you gave me your cop cards and no I will cherish that card forever. I heart is with you and your family. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers. Today when I put that Flower on your coffin it just felt so different but also known that you are a hero and you gave your life to protect the City of Reading. I stood outside of that Cemetary thinking why did your life have to end this way. My donation was giving at Wawa for your kids. I wish them and your wife and family the best of luck and I know it will be hard for them. But they should all know that you are a hero.

You will never be forgotten:

From, Marcie

Scottie, I used to love the way you use to call me HOLLYWOOD. Im going to miss that. I will miss the way you use to bang on the door and ask for the newspaper. Who's going to drive me to the boys games when I don't want to go with Jim early. I will miss all the times sitting on the patio and driking beer, great conversation and laughs. I'll miss your smiling face...... Love you kiddo. Nancy

As I sit here reading all of these reflections, I still can not believe that Offcier Wertz is gone. I have such feeling of uneasiness. I can not imagine the pain that you, Mrs Wertz and your boys are going through at this time. They say time heals all wounds, I pray for you that that is true. Please know that your husband will always be a HERO in my eyes, and the eyes of many. Take comfort in knowing that Scott will never be forgtten.
My heart goes out to you and your children.

I did not know Officer Wertz. I grew up in the city of Reading, and it saddens me deeply to know of the state of the city of Reading. My heart goes out to the wife and children of Officer Wertz. May God watch over them, and keep them in the palm of his hand. What a shame, what a waste. Please don't let it happen again.

I was so shocked to find out today that you were the officer I heard got killed. We were never close, we went to school together, and when I saw you as an umpire in my softball league it was nice to see you. When I found out you were an officer I had so much respect for you. There was always an aw affect I had when I was around you. I'm glad to have known you, and was happy to read all the wonderful things everyone has said about you. I will say a prayer for you family,,,may God bless your family.

"To protect and to serve" written on the patrol cars of law enforcement officers all over the country, written upon the hearts of the men and women who drive them. They stand in harms way serving and protecting us every day. We see them, we too oft take what they do for granted. We have a bad day, and dismiss it, and try it again tomorrow. If a Police Officer has a bad day, he is called "a fallen hero", and there is no tomorrow. Thank you Officer Wertz for paying the ultimate price for the saftey of my wife and five children, and the community in which you so bravely served. You were the servant of God, in the words of the Apostle Paul... "the minister of God for good". (Romans 13:4) You are a hero! May the comforting presents of the Lord Jesus Christ be with this dear family through the presents of the Holy Spirit working in and through them to draw them unto Himself during this time of grief and loss.

My deepest condolences to the Wertz family and friends and the RPD. It sickens me to know the brave lose their life for the cowardly. My brother was a friend of yours growing up in Reading when the streets weren't mean. May you rest in peace and may your family find comfort in the knowledge that you died a true hero. God bless you.
