Reflections for Deputy Cory Allen Ricks

Thank you for your dedicated service to your community and your department. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May they never forget your faithful service to your community and department and the brave HERO that you were. To Mrs. Ricks, children, family, friends and co-workers, our heartfelt prayers and sympathies are with you. May God be with you all during this very sorrowful time. Words will never compensate the loss you have suffered. We pray that He now gives you all strength in your time of need. May you find peace in the thought, that we as friends in law enforcement, take this time to lift you up in prayer.

For your act of unselfish bravery and courage Deputy Ricks, we salute you. Blessed are the peacemakers.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEND MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE WIFE AND CHILDREN OF DEPUTY RICKS. I CAN TRUELY UNDERSTAND THE PAIN THAT YOU ARE FEELING RIGHT NOW. I LOST TIMOTHY IN THE LINE OF DUTY IN AUGUST OF 2005 AND IT STILL IS SO NEW. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT OUR LOVED ONES LOVED THEIR JOBS AND THEY WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. THEY ARE TRUE HERO'S AND NOW THEY WATCH OVER US FROM ABOVE. THERE ARE NO WORDS TO SAY THAT WILL EASE YOUR PAIN, JUST KNOW THAT HE WILL NEVER LEAVE YOUR SIDE. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY DURING THIS TIME OF LOSS.

With the recent passing of the anniversary of my late fiancé's EOW passes it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to start off the new year without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Deputy Ricks, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. If you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me.

From reading all the reflections left for Cory, he sounds like he was a great man and a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Cory's life and the MAN that he was. His life was about so much more than the way he died. Remember that "Wherever a beautiful soul has been ... there is a trail of beautiful memories." Cory will live on in those memories.

Deputy Ricks, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God."

Rest easy Brother

Officer David Pitts
Albertville Police Department Albertville, Al

January 25, 2006

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Words can not say enough but, we mourn another hero that has been taken from us. My deepest sympathy to the family, friends and co-workers. May the Lord give you strength and bless each of you during this time. Remember these few verses taken from the KJB. In I Samuel 20:3 it says, And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly [as] the LORD liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, [there is] but a step between me and death. And in Philippians 1:21 it says, For to me to live [is] Christ, and to die [is] gain.

To the family of Deputy Ricks, you are in my prayers, but I believe that Cory will be with you always, keeping watch over you and always alive in your hearts and minds and souls. He was taken much too soon and so tragically.

My prayers go out to the poor kid who died with Deputy Ricks. A life that might have legitimately been turned around is now gone.

Deputy Ricks, God Bless you for the work you did on behalf of the citizens of Seward County and may you rest in peace.
