I had the pleasure of working with Cory at the Sheriff Office. Even now, when I walk into the booking I can see and hear you there. Cory you sure had a way of placing everything in it's place. But for the rest of us it looked crazy. To this day we still talk about the way you did things and wish some of the people we have working here now were as organized as you were. I miss your great personality and smile. You always had a way to made us feel good when we were having a bad day. May god keep his hands layed upon you,Amy and the kids. See you in heaven my friend.

As Kansas lost another fine officer today, we wanted to take this opportunity to remember and salute Deputy Cory Ricks, and to fold our arms around his family.

May God continue to bless and watch over your family, and hold you in the palm of His hand. You will not be forgotten, Deputy Ricks. Rest in peace, sir.

Final Call

An Angel in the sky must leave his place of rest,
gently tucking his wings beneath his armored vest.

For duty has called, there is much to do little did he know, this one is dressed in blue.

Arriving on the scene, he knows just what to say, "follow me, my fallen brother, I'll show you the way." "Your duty has ended, your work is now through." "Come hang your hat beside mine, I'm a cop, too."

God bless Deputy Ricks family and keep your department safe from harm.

Unk Author
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step foreword now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I aint,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Thought at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
but if you don't...I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step foreword now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

It is hard to believe that 6 months have almost gone by. Your littlest girl is almost 5 months old. Today, july 4th, has been really hard since it has always been a family reunion day for us and your folks and family.

I miss you every minute of every day.

See you in heaven.

You truly do not miss someone until they are really gone. Live your life to the fullest, and never take any day for granted because it might be your last. I will always remember the times we spent hunting, fishing, or just hanging out. Cory will be missed to all who knew him, he was truly one of a kind. I love you man; and I'll see you on the other side some day.

Cory, our first born, so small & special, he was such a blessing. I watched him the first 2 years of his life. He was always wanting to learn to make himself better. He was a wonderful person, the BEST Dad, and husband. He will truly be missed by all who new and loved him.

Cory Ricks was not only a great father, husband, son, nephew, cousin, and worker, he was a great person. He always put others before himself. He was the kind of person who if you didn't have a shirt, he would give you his off his back. Words just can't explain how Cory was. They just aren't deep enough. Cory had a heart of gold. It was contagious. His laugh was like rays of sunshine, it was bright and warm all the time. Cory never tried to be anything that he wasn't and nothing that he couldn't be, but he always tried to be the best that he could be in the things that he was like a father and husband. He always treated you with respect no matter who you were, how old you were, or if you had done somthing to him. He would stick up for anything that he believed in. In other words I guess you would say he was opinionated in what he believed in. He never did things half-heartedly. It was all or nothing. Cory was an awesome person. If you didn't know him, I'm sorry, but if you did then you know that what I put doesn't even come close to what he really was. He was a man of Honor and Dignity. He will be greatly missed. He was loved and will continue living on in all of the people who he touched or he knew personally. As long as those people live on and talk about him, Cory will live. I love you Cory! RIP!

Roberta, Larry, Amy and families:
Your Cory loved you each so! That was so evident when I met him, just once, but once was enough to see the deep family commitment that he had for you all. He was respectful, thoughtful, pleasant, kind and cheerful. In a poem called THE DASH, by Linda Ellis, she describes the dates of birth and death and the dash in between them. She suggests that what matters most is the years during that dash. Cory had a wonderful "DASH"; the years spent living on this earth of loving, caring and being a great man to you his family, the inmates, other officers and peers, and friends. The beautiful memorials at the church and cemetery were a testimony of what God had done in his life. What a heritage! How we would have been blessed to know him better. May you each carry fond memories in your hearts forever. A man like Cory is more than just a memeory to you; he is a living presence in your lives; you each are his trophies; you were his love and his life. May the Lord bless you, keep you, and make His face to shine upon you and give you Peace.

Most Sincerely, Gail and Randy Hunsaker
