Words cannot convey the sorrow and loss that are felt over the loss of Officer Brian Gregg, and for the suffering of his family, especially his wife and his little boy whose lives are forever changed. I will always remember his friendly smile as I passed along the streets of Newtown. I hope that his family can find some comfort in the knowledge that Officer Gregg fulfilled his dream, that he was deeply loved and respected in his community and that he touched the lives of so many people in so many ways. He was a man of integrity and truly a hero.

I am from Montgomery County, PA and when I heard of this tragedy it broke my heart. My husband, Richard, was a police officer for Lower Gwynedd and was killed in the line of duty in 2003. Since then, whenever I hear of an officer being killed I know first hand what the family is going through and I relive it with them. I know the long painful road you have ahead of you, but remember Brian will be with you every step of the way. Knowing that will help. Also lean on family and friends; you can't do this alone and shouldn't have to. Your husband gave his life protecting us so let people show their respect and thanks by helping you, his family. Always remember the special qualties Brian had and the wonderful times you shared with him. Be grateful for the gift he was to your life and know that you will see him again. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Officer Gregg,

Your kind demeanor and calming presence will be sorely missed in Newtown. Heaven is blessed to have you make your home there now, and Earth sorely misses you.

Your brothers of the Newtown fire service will deeply miss you and all the warmth that you spread among us. You were truly a great person to have known.

May God watch over and protect your wife and your son, and bestow upon you all the bountiful blessings of Heaven.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
when there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand,
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

I wish to express my deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and law enforcement officers who worked with Officer Gregg. As someone who grew up across the street from where this tragedy occured, and who remembers riding his bicycle through the streets of Newtown Borough as a child I feel a deep sense of grief for your loss and for the loss of the Langhorne/Newtown community as a whole. I, like Officer Gregg aspire to change my career and become a police officer. Although I never met him, I will look to Officer Gregg as my example of dedication.

Thank you for your sacrifice.

Growing up in Washingtons Crossing and attending Council Rock High, I know how small knit Newtown borough and township is and how devastated everyone must be. My parents still live in the area and called to tell me about what had happened. For friends and family of Officer Gregg, he will never be forgotten. He has given the ultimate sacrifice for the good of his community and we will never forget him. Rest in peace brother,

My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in SE Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Brian did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Brian be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Gregg's family, friends, and co-workers are going through in losing him. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. Please know that my thoughts are with you and that you are not alone in your "journey". Should you ever need anything please do not hesitate to contact me. (The Davis County Sheriff's Office and COPS will also always know how to reach me.)

As a fallen officer "survivor" and a friend, please accept my condolences on behalf of myself and the McElderry family. I never got the opportunity to know Brian but, I am certain he was well respected and well loved. Brian will live on in the hearts of all the lives he touched. You were all blessed to have been able to know and love Brian, even for a short time. I pray that Brian and Dennis will continue to watch over us along with all the other fallen officers all as only they can.

Thank you Officer Gregg for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiancé Dennis for me.

Wishing you and all those who loved you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Officer Brian Steven Gregg was on duty last spring when my 10 year old daughter's class from Newtown Friends School took the historic tour of Newtown during which many schools tour the mayor's hall, the fire department, the district court and of course the police station. Officer Gregg took the children out to the parking lot and had a police car there. Officer Gregg talked about being a policeman and told the children how he left his job as a contractor to become a policeman and he loved it. He talked about what his job was and how he worked to help others. The children were thrilled when he turned on the lights, and let them look into the car and see the computer inside. Officer Gregg connected with the children completely. He was happy, joyful, loving, caring and kind. He touched the lives of so many children that day as well as the adult chaperones like myself. When I saw the picture of the officer that was killed at St Mary's I instantly recognized him as Officer Gregg, our kind policeman from our tour. I am just devastated that such a wonderful young human being lost his life in such a senseless way at the hands of a less than human monster. Officer Gregg, rest in peace and know that your memory lives in in those whose lives you touched...and it was many. God bless you and your family and the Newtown Borough Police Department.

Every officer that reads what happened to Officer Gregg should take a moment to reflect back on your own practices with suspects when in custody. My heart and prayers go out to his wife and 4 year old. It's such a tragic thing for this child to lose a father in such a tragic way. To his friends and family, our hearts go out to you. Officer Gregg was a true hero and God obviously needed him on duty in Heaven. We'll take the watch down here, brother.

To the family and friends of Officer Brian Steven Gregg and fellow officers with the Newtown Borough Police Dept:

On behalf of our entire family, we wish to entend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Officer Gregg was so brutally murdered. His valor and bravery will never be forgotten.

May his loved ones be comforted by the caring and support of your law enforcement community, and other police survivors. Our family grieves with you and for you. We share your agony as we lost our beloved Larry Lasater of the Pittsburg Police Dept. when he was fatally shot on April 23rd during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers.

It is so sad that Officer Gregg was killed in the line of duty under such horrific circumstances. We also pray for the recovery of the other wounded officer and hospital technician. We also pray that justice for you be rendered against the despicable criminal who took his life.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect fo the service Officer Gregg gave to his community, and the citizens of Pennsylvania, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 29, 2005.
