Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Brian Steven Gregg

Officer Gregg, you will Never be forgotten by the residents of the Boro and the surrounding area. You will always leave a special place in all our hearts. I will never forget your smile, your compassion, and, our conversations about your son, and, the youth in the area you cared so deeply
about. You loved the Lord and you are by his side now in peace, though, we will all miss you and Never Forget You!

As a graduate of Temple Police Acadamy also, I remeber our graduation address. It was said 'Never, Never do anything to tarnish the badge that we wear.' Brian did quite the opposite. Brian has brought Honor, Dignity and Respect to all those that are a part of that Thin Blue Line. The filth that sought to destroy the badge on that night has instead made it stronger. Brian's life will be remebered as each officer remembers that no call is 'routine'.

To Brian's family and friends we are sorry for your loss and thankful for being able to call Brian a Brother.

May God bless you and keep you, may He make His face to shine upon you.

R.I.P. BROTHER, YOU GAVE ALL.

October 6, 2005

Our deepest condolences to your family,
from the reflections left we can see that you were a wonderful person and a truely a Brother we would have all been proud to serve with. A wondeful quote that truely fits.

"...its not how an Police officer died that made him a hero, its how he lived"

God Bless you Brian, thank you for your service, we'll continue the watch from here with you and your family forever in our hearts.

I was an officer for Newtown Borough Police in 1988. Small nice town...quiet. Just proves you never know when your number is up. I remember seeing Brian at Starbucks as I got my coffee on my way to work for daywork. Nice guy, didn't deserve this. may God bless him and his family.

I am a former Newtown Borough Police Officer. I cannot describe the feeling of sorrow and empathy for Brians's Family and his fellow officers at 51 PD. Reading local news accounts of the reaction to Brian's death from the residents of Newtown Borough and the surrounding areas is heartwarming. Brian, you touched so many lives in your short career in law enforcement. It is abundantly clear that your role of caregiver, protector and friend was not lost on the public. You are a shining example of what a Police Officer should be. Your loss will be felt for generations. To your fellow Newtown Borough and Newtown Township Officers, my heartfelt sympathy. On Friday, Officers from far and wide will stand side by side in stoic silence to Honor your sacrifice. HONOR, you have earned it. God speed my friend, until we meet again.

There are no words adequate enough to express the sorrow and anger we feel over the loss of Officer Brian Gregg. Our family extends our deepest condolences to his family, the Newtown Borough Police Department and to every law enforcment officer who everyday do a job above and beyond for the good of us all.

I work in Newtown Township and often would see Officer Gregg in the borough always smiling. He was also very approachable never hesitating to talk to you about your day. To borrow part of a reflection from Tennessee State Trooper D Osborne, "Officer Gregg was an American hero that did a job most wouldn't take and the rest are scared to do."

Chief Wojciechowski said that, "Officer Gregg was one of the finest human beings I have ever met." I couldn't agree with that more. You could just feel the genuine goodness of this man.

Rest in peace Officer Gregg and grant us your protection from above.

Another brother-in-arms was taken from us. This one hits really close to home.
You will never be forgotten. I hope, someday, that your son will realize what a true hero his father was.
Brian, may you rest in peace.

Officer Gregg had given me a speeding ticket on one of the first nice days in the spring. Driving away with my ticket, I wasn't angry. I just kept thinking, what a nice man. Of course I was speeding, and he did his job. We had chatted while he wrote the ticket, and I noticed a sticker on his clipboard, and I laughed. The sticker said, Bad Cop, No Doughnut" He told me that his young son had given it to him. He had a proud look in his eye when he told me. I'm glad I was speeding, in hindsight, it gave me the opportunity to have a conversation with a man who gave his life in the line of duty, protecting citizens. God bless his family, and if his little boy turns out anything like his daddy, he'll be a great man.

As the wife of a police officer, please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your husband and father. I do not understand what you are going through but I do understand the call to duty for a man who wants nothing more than to be a police officer. I hope you know that your husband died a hero, doing what he loved to do and protecting his community. God bless you all.

Officer Gregg,
It was an honor to be one of your dispatchers. You gave the ultimate sacrifice, THANK YOU! What happened that day proved that no call is routine for any of us, even if you've dealt with that type of situation countless times before. I hope we all (dispatchers and officers) remember that. That is one call on the radio I hope never to have to hear, for working with you day in and day out you have become an extension of our family. When Last Call is read I will be there. Just like we always are.
To Officer Gregg's family, he truly is a hero and will forever remain as one in our hearts.

Our small town has been affected by the death of this fine young officer. His parents, John and Nancy Gregg, are residents of our town and volunteers at our library. We grieve with them and their family and ask God to keep them in His care, May eternal rest fall upon Officer Brian Gregg and may he someday be reunited with those who love him so.

As a Volunteer Officer and the Link Officer for our local Hospital I see the violence 1st hand on a regular basis.
This poem was published on a U.K. police site, and to those of us who serve our communities, it seems a fitting tribute.
I salute you, May you rest in Peace.

The Policeman's Lot

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders
and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was rough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much.
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where saints had often trod,
As the policeman waited quietly,
for the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman.
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
you've done your time in Hell."

I never had the privilage of meeting Brian or his family, but I wanted to let your family know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. In February 2004, one of my best friends lost her husband of six months in the line of duty. His name was Bert Zimmerman. He was a NJ State Trooper and he also has a Reflection Page on this website. Seeing my friend go through what you are now going through was one of the hardest things I have ever witnessed. My heart goes out to your family and friends and I pray that you will soon find peace in your heart.

Our deepest sympathy to Brian's family, friends and fellow officers. Our borough streets will never be quite the same without his smiling face riding down them. There was always a wave or a visit from the man with the "big" smile.

Rest in peace Brian.
