Steve, Its taken me these several days just to be able to write these words. You were always helpful and kind, though sometimes in your own way, to me. You even stopped me from smoking that cigar! For that I will ALWAYS be grateful. I will dearly miss your wonderful and good-humored way and your knack for putting things in perspective. I have been blessed to have known and worked with you. Brother, you were one hell of a cop!

I have been a cop for 8 years which means when I was in jr. high, Cpl Gaughan was out there keeping the streets safe. Although I live in Ohio I want to thank Cpl Gaughan for keeping the streets safe and I pray for the family and the department. His life and beliefs will continue as long as we have officers with the same dedication that Cpl. Gaughan had. God bless you all and may he rest in peace because he has brought peace to others in many ways as an officer, father, and human being.

From the moment we met, you took every opportunity to remind me of my academy Starsky & Hutch episode. We had many a laugh at my expense. I can still see your huge smile and mischevious twinkle in your eye. I admire your endless energy and zeal for what you do best: being the POLICE! You will never be forgotten--your memory will forever live on in my heart and the hearts of your fellow officers. To know you was a special gift that I was glad to have received. Rest in Peace, Brother. Job well done.

Steve,
You never turned and ran. You never took the cowards way out. You were a tough cop with a soft heart. I can't remember ever being around you without laughing because of you. The following epitomizes the Steve Gaughan I knew:

"Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste death but once."
- William Shakespeare

"From now until the end of the world, we and it shall be remembered.
We few, we Band of Brothers.
For he who sheds his blood with me shall be my brother."
- William Shakespeare

Gone, but never forgotten!
