I write this after you after have left us physically, because I can not say it to your face now. But that was one thing we could do. We could always say things to your face because we all know that you had no problem saying it to our faces. When we worked in "H" sector together but different shifts we were always asked by the people on Homer and Huron if Garnett and Brady were working today. That always told me that they were always scared of being out when you guys were working. Steve you were a good guy and one hell of a f------ cop. I only use that word because I can not recall a sentence from Steve without in it. I ask you to go rest now because your work on earth is done here. Your memory will live on with me as well as all the old school rollers. For Donna I can only say I am sorry for your loss and my prayers will always be with you. Also Steve I am sorry that it took me so long to back you up that one day on Eastern Ln.

1734 you are 10-7, and we are 10-8 from here. You can call us when you need a 10-78, because you know we will be running.

Steve,
It's hard to believe it's been 15 years since we started the same academy class on 3-12-90. I will forever miss your infectious smile, laughter and those "bright blue eyes" you were so proud of. It's been hard these past few days to believe that we won't be seeing you again, won't be hearing that Boston accent or get the usual teasing from you. I'm at such a loss for words to describe how I feel, I can't explain it. Rest easy knowing that Donna and the kids are surrounded by a lot of love and support from family and friends. Your journey may have come to an end here, but in reality it's just beginning up there. Be in peace.
P.S. The Steelers can take the Dolphins anyday. :)

Without 'angels on earth' like Sergeant Gaughan, and our recent loss, Deputy Jerry Ortiz, there is no hope for those who cannot fight their own battles. Our job is often thankless, yet we carry on together as a law enforcement family to make this world a better place. Our brothers have paid the ultimate price for that freedom. God Bless them, their families. Thank you for this opportunity to express my feelings.

Our hearts are with his family and friends during this time of grief, but we know that Steve is in Heaven with the Lord and we can take comfort in seeing him again one day.

Steve,

You're a man's man. Your life is a testimony to the transforming love of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. By His grace you are Saved, and currently enjoy eternity in Heaven. Your faith in Him will change many more lives to come. The memories we have of you are a blessing to many. We are personally awestruck finding out how many lives you have touched all around us, just by being who you are to all of us. We thank you for your service. We can see your smile from Heaven every day, just like the picture. We love you brother.

O Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling/ From glen to glen and down the mountainside/ The summers gone and all the roses falling/ 'Tis you, tis you, must go and I must bide./ But come ye back when summer's in the meadow/ Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow/ 'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow/ O Danny boy, O Danny boy, I love you so./ But if you come and all the flowers are dying/ If I am dead, as dead I well may be, You'll come and find the place where I am lying/ And kneel and say an ave there for me./ And I shall hear, though soft, your tread above me/ And all my grave shall warmer, sweeter be, for you will bend and tell me that you love me/ And I will sleep in peace, until you come to me. Its no great loss to die for what you believe in, the loss is in not believing in anything enough to be willing to die for it. Steve believed in what he did with is whole heart. He did his duty knowing this might be the cost.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God." (Matt 5;9 NIV)

Steve was far too a vibrant life for a bullet to end. That life went somewhere. Steve knew his savior so he is hearing "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!" (Matt 25;21 NIV)

Steve's dedication to his church was the same as his dedication to his police work. He was a truly willing servant that would help anyone anytime they needed. His faithful service to God, family and the people of this county will be sorely missed.

Welcome home, Steve. We’ll miss you until we join you at the master’s table.
