Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Larry Elwood Lasater, Jr.

Phyllis,
You are an extraprdinary woman and I can only imagine what an incredible man your son was. I am doing research on all the peace officers killed on my department and see that you have left a comment for each one of them. THAT'S 118 PEACE OFFICERRS. For a couple of our people, yours is the only comment.
After a brief sampling from the sites of other agencies, I see that you have left a reflection for every peace officer killed in the state of California. ALL OF THEM! THAT IS 1,545 PEACE OFFICERS!
Thank you for your son and your love for all of his brothers and sisters who paid the ultimate price with him.
GOD BLESS YOU, MAM!

I wasn't going to write here about Lloyd passing away but since someone already has, I will. It does not feel like losing you all over again..it feels like losing Lloyd. Your heart became his and he was grateful for your gift of life. He made sure he was part of Cody's life. Lloyd and his wife made Cody and I feel like family. I consider them Cody's grandparents. Cody and I were made to feel part of their family. I will miss him and so will Cody. I know you were there to welcome him. Love you.

So sad to hear that the loving man who received your heart has passed away. I am heartbroken for your family to have to endure what I am sure feels like losing you all over again. As I read a post your mom left, I think I just sat and cried for a bit and then thought to come here and tell you that you are still missed more and more. Watch over your mom tonight, Larry. I know that she must be devastated for the loss of someone your whole family has grown so close to, especially your son. Wrap your angel's wings around her and show her you are still with her. Show us all.

Thinking of you always! Our son got the game ball at his baseball game last night. He was smiling from ear to ear. He looked so much like you with that big smile.

Cody and I talk about you every day. I love you.

Dear Phyllis, Just a note to thank you for honoring my grandfather on his site. I can't imagine the pain of losing your son, in any manner but especially in the manner he died. He was and is a hero. We are safer because of men and women like your son who give their lives to protect us. ...as I am Irish as was my grandfather and other family members, I leave you with this: "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal." From an tombstone in Ireland. I wish you wonderful memories of your hero son.

Dear Phyllis, Jo Ann & Coty, I just found my Grandfather Henry Lee's page here and was so pleased to see your kind words there Phyllis. My father lost his Mother at his birth & his dad when he was 2 and his sister 4. He never understood why his father put himself in danger when he was sole responsible for two small children, I have seen bravery listed through these pages and now I understand. My dad died at 91, I think still not understanding. We just found this page last nite and had recently found the story of what happened in 1910 in a local Kentucky paper. Thank You again from my whole family. Jo Ann & Coty, what a remarkable man your husband & father must have been, love to you both. We are there inspiration for others.

Larry,
Nobody is missing you more on Valentine's day than me. 15 years ago was the best Valentine's day ever.

Preparing to ride in the Police Unity Tour again. I can't wait to honor you and the other officers. I am blessed that my parents and sisters are willing to help me by watching Cody while I ride and my sister will fly with him to meet me at the wall. I wouldn't be able to do it without them. I couldn't imagine not having him waiting there for me.
If I didn't have my family to help me, I couldn't ride.

One of the many things on my to do list is to print out the reflections on ODMP that are about you or written to you and make a memory book for Cody.

Love you always

Dear Phyllis,
I wanted to thank you for your very kind and thoughtful words you left on my son Brian Gleason's page. It brings so much joy when you check their pages and see such kind words left by a stranger. We as mothers are not really strangers when it comes to the loss of our sons and the pain we all share of the missing piece of our hearts. I pray that God will continue to give you and your family strength from day to day. John 14:27 has always given me strength and I pray it will give you strength also. Again thank you.

Phyllis,
Thank you so much for writing on my son's page just before New Years. As you know New Years is his birthday, so I truly miss him most on that day as I know you miss your son. There will always be a feeling of emptiness in our hearts. I have been lucky to have Dave's partners and friends help me thru the rough days with helping with fundraiser and service for other fallen officer. I hope you have had a great support system as I do to get you thru on the rough days. Know that you're never alone. Your son and mine are now angels watching over their brothers and sisters.

Larry,

I remember when you gave the ultimate sacrifice, and it hit very close to home. My uncle, Police Officer Roger Warren with LAPD, was shot and killed in the line of duty. Since then, my father, uncle, grandfather, godfather, and myself, all became police officers. Not a day goes by that I don't think about my Uncle, and sacrifices such as yours specifically, which give me the strength to be the sheepdog I was bred to be. Thank you Larry for watching over me and my fellow brothers and sisters in blue.

Last year your mom, Phyllis, wrote on my uncle's page for his 45 year anniversary. Phyllis I want to thank you, that struck a cord in my heart because it crushed me when Larry gave his life, and for our paths to cross in such a way is amazing. So thank you, and much love from The Warrens, and from the Newark Police Department.

I didn't know Officer Lasater but I am touched by the love and service he must have provided for his community given his legacy that lives on through his wife and mother here on this page. I'm sure your husband and son would be proud of you and the ways you have found love in your grief. Cody is lucky to have such a wonderful family and beautiful legacy to continue.

Dearest Phyllis~ I've missed you and have thought of you often. I tried to find you on Facebook but haven't been able to. Please send me a "friend request" if you still have an account. It's been 18 months since I lost my boys and I have so much to share with you. I hope you are doing much better since your surgery. I don't think I have a good email address for you either, but I want to keep in touch!

Jo Ann~ I continue to think of you and send love to sweet Cody! I can imagine how busy he keeps you, but savor each day... they really do grow up too fast! God bless you both.

Larry~ Continue to keep watch from above, and spend some time getting to know my Daddy and sons, Matthew and Joshua. They are special men and you'd enjoy visiting with them, even as you do the work the Lord has for you now.

I too visit ODMP regularly, and I see your Mother's reflections left on so many officers pages. She left a reflection on my Dads page recently, so I had to come see your page. Like you, Larry, my dad was also shot when he was just doing his job. The job he had sworn to do. Defend and protect. Thank you so very much for your service.

I really appreciate the reflections left here for my husband. I appreciate most of all the reflections left that are about Larry or written to Cody.

I make sure that Cody knows all about his father. We talk about him every day. I have encouraged people who don't spend a lot of time with Cody to write down memories of Larry so Cody will get a sense of who Larry was. I love the reflections left by people who knew him in the Marine Corp. or in high school. It's something Cody will really appreciate reading. Thank you to those who write about Larry and share memories of him.

I had the honor to serve in the US Marines direcly with LT. Larry Lasater. We were in 1st Tank Bn, 29 Palms, Ca. I will always remember Larry as a hard working...get it done Marine Officer! He had a great character that everyone enjoyed. He had a great way of connecting with people no matter what background you had or where you were from. You could tell just from his smile, that he was always having fun....serving in the Marines & then in the Police was in his blood. To protect others was his life.
The one thing that always make me smile....his car at the time (Red Pontiac GrandAm) had an issue with the drivers door & window, so he would often pull up & get in & out "Dukes of Hazard" style! climbing out, because the door would not open!
He will be a Marine that i will never forget.....he made a possitive impression on me & i try to be a better person each day because of him.

Thinking of you today. I wonder, what do you think when you look down on those who are left here, mourning you? Do you feel the pain we feel, do you miss those who are left here? Or do you only know happiness in heaven? I wish for you there only happiness. I wish for you to know the love we all have for you. I wish for your mom to know and feel your presence on days she is down. I wish for you son to always know you are there watching over him. I pray that you will keep giving signs to everyone that you are with us all. You are missed. Every day, every hour, you are missed. Fly high on Angel's wings dear Larry. Fly high and soar with Eagles.

Feel sorry for your loss Phyllis .. When we join to the police we are never ready to die, but we fight who can bring it to us, always close to the danger. Your son will always be a hero, and I cant imagine how is pain to be far from someone who was always there. My feelings .

Ms Loya

Thank you for your words on Josh's page and my thoughts are with you as well. Since being a retired Marine myself, possible a chance your son and I crossed paths unknowingly. But will say it was a honor to share two callings with your son. To take a quote from Ronald Reagan "Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem. " Your son fills that category and you as well being a Marine Mom. Semper Fi
