Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Larry Elwood Lasater, Jr.

I am Larry,s . I remember being told of his death.it was a very sad moment. I have worked in law enforcement myself, since the year 2000. We had a fallen hero picture hanging in the patrol office. I have thought of Larry many times. I went to a funeral of a fallen office in Winston Salem,NC. Again I thought of Larry.
I am no longer working in law enforcement, but I think about my buddies everyday. They were sworn, and I was not, but the Bond between us was the same.

As this New Year Day is coming to an end, I wanted to thank everyone who has posted a reflection on Larry's page this year. It makes my heart sing when I open his page and see a new remembrance from a fellow officer, one of his Marines, another survivor, or a friend. Each and every post is appreciated.

A special thanks to Jim Crotty for his recent reflection and I was really touched by his words . Since Larry's death, I have met many surviving family members of fallen officers and we all share the common bond of not wanting our beloved officer to be forgotten. It is my desire that each officer be paid tribute for their service and sacrifice.

Although I do share memories of his daddy with Cody, I would be remiss if I did nor state that the person most responsible for Cody knowing about and honoring his father is Larry's wife Jo Ann. All the surviving spouses who raise their children to respect their father's memory and law enforcement are to be commended for this unvaluable gift to their children.

I wish peace in their heart to all survivors of fallen officers and pray for the safety of all those who protect and serve their communities.

Officer Lasater, I continue to honor you, for so many reasons, and I will continue to do so for the rest of my life. I have no doubt that a major contributing reason to the quality individual you were, was directly related to your wonderful Mother, Ms. Phllis Loya.

Larry, your Mom finds a way to bring comfort and peace to the survivors of EVERY law enforcement officer who is killed, murdered or who has died in the line of duty. Her words are not written for the purpose of simply"leaving a reflection," but rather, they are obviously heart felt, sincere and generated from her heart for the specific situation that resulted in the officer's death. Having been a policeman in the early through mid 1970s, I have had many police friends murdered and killed in the line of duty. Your Mom has left reflections for them in which she specifically mentions me, and the wonderful personal and professional relationships we were fortunate to have. Everything your Mom writes to all the survivors is original, authentic and heart felt. I am in awe of her mental energy and commitment to the survivors of the law enforcement community. I honor your Mother Larry . . honor her undying love for you, for all that suffer the loss of friends, brothers, sisters, mothers and and fathers.

You were a fine looking man Larry, a good looking guy . . you LOOK like a United States Marine . . you look like a police officer, and you look like the wonderful Daddy that you were denied being. Fear not though brother, for your Mother will insure that your young son knows EVERYTHING about his wonderful Daddy. I'm so, so sorry Larry . . you were SO respectable . . NOBODY could have asked ANYTHING more of you . . a United States Marine and a Pittsburg, CA policeman . . how American is THAT!? I HONOR you, and I honor your wonderful Mother . . if you read this Ms. Loya, please know that every word you document to us, the survivors, means more to us than I could ever explain. Thank you, God bless you and God keep the soul of Pittsburg, CA Police Officer Larry Elwood Lasater, Jr.

Missing you as always! I don't write here as much as I used to because it really doesn't offer the comfort it once did. I guess it's part of the grieving process.
This is my 8th Christmas without you.
Cody is amazing and I'm glad we have each other because at the end of the day, that is really all we have. I'll love you always.

Holidays are extra hard as I remember all the Christmas holidays we shared. I can even remember special outfits you wore as a small child and you were always so adorable. I remember that you always wanted UNC stuff. I remember you helping set the dinner table with our Christmas china every year and how you loved your grandmother's chocolate and walnut cake. I remember how you helped me with the toy drive for homeless children patiently wrapping the gifts and helping me deliver them. During your last Christmas in 2004, you were already looking forward to next year's Christmas as it would be your son's first Christmas. Yes, I remember and each memory is precious.

Yesterday, I saw a memorial tribute to murder victim Teresa Del Rio and it was so moving. For the first time, I heard the song Someone is Missing at Christmas by Anne Cochran. So this is for you, Lar.

Someone Is Missing At Christmas

Someone I Loved All My Life
Someone I Played With And Laughed All Night Long
Someone I Think Of When I Hear That Song

Someone Is Missing At Christmas
Someone Has Left Me Alone
Someone So Close Even Though we're Apart
Someone Who'd Finish The Sentence I'd Start

Someone Whose Love Is My Favorite Gift
Someone Whose Presence Is My Christmas Wish
Someone Who Always Was Here
Someone Is Missing This Year

Candlelit Snapshots Of Christmases Gone By
You In Your Favorite Chair
Memories Like Snowflakes Melt In My Eyes
I Look And You're Not Sitting There

Someone Whose Love Is My Favorite Gift
Someone Whose Presence Is My Christmas Wish
Someone Is Missing At Christmas
Wait... Someone Is Touching My Heart

Someone Has Heard Me And Answered My Call
Someone I Love Is Not Missing At All
Someone Is With Me At Christmas
Someone's Right Here In My Heart
Someone I Love Is With Me This Christmas
and Will Be Each Christmas To Come!
Lyrics written by John Chaffee

You are always in my heart and I am so glad to be your mom.

My beloved, it has been a while since I have posted a reflection for you...probably the longest period since I started posting. In these last months, you have been with me more than ever and Mom definitely felt your presence and strength when I was recovering from heart surgery. I know that one night you were watching over me and telling me that I would be o.k. I found myself waking up from a deeply medicated sleep reaching to grab your hnnd. Thank you for being by my side during this illness but then you were always ready to take care of your mom if she needed it.

Today is your birthday; our journey began 43 years ago today. Mom was so very, very lucky to have had those 35 years together. I miss you so much and wish so much for my old life. For now, I have to have faith that we will be reunited again. Until then you are forever in my heart, forever in my my soul...you are the very best part of me. I love you, my cherished son.

There is so much of you in Cody...especially his intense gaze and focus. You and Jo Ann were great parents and Jo Ann is an exceptional mother.

Loving you forever and a day,

Mom

JO ANN,
I VISIT ODMP OFTEN BECAUSE I AM A POLICE OFFICER AND I HAVE LOST A DEAR FRIEND THAT I WORKED WITH IN 2011. EVERY TIME A NEW OFFICER IS POSTED ON HERE I SEE A REFLECTION FROM LARRY'S MOTHER. I DECIEDED TODAY TO LOOK HIM UP AND READ HIS STORY. I BEGAN READING REFLECTIONS LEFT FOR HIM AND COULDNT STOP. AS I READ THE ONE'S YOU LEFT I CRIED. I AM A POLICE OFFCIER AND I UNDERSTAND WHY LARRY CHOOSE THIS PROFESSION. I THANK HIM FOR HIS SERVICE AND WILL HONOR HIM EVERYDAY AS I PATROL THE STREETS. BUT, YOU SEE I AM A WIFE OF AND OFFICER AND A MOTHER ALSO. I COULD NOT IMAGINE THE PAIN YOU FEEL. WE HAVE A SON THE SAME AGE AS CODY AND AGAIN I CAN NOT IMAGINE WHAT HIS LIFE WOULD BE LIKE IF HE DID NOT HAVE HIS DAD. BECAUSE OF YOU AND KEEPING LARRY'S MEMORY ALIVE CODY WILL KNOW HIS DAD. OF COURSE ITS NOT WHAT YOU HAD PLANNED BUT THERE IS A REASON SOMEWHERE IN THE MIST OF THIS TRAGIC LOSS. THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR MEMORIES OF LARRY AND THE STORIES OF CODY BUT, MOST OFF ALL THANK YOU JO ANN FOR REMINDING ME NOT TO TAKE MY HUSBAND FOR GRANTED AND REMINDING ME THAT ALL THE LITTLE THINGS IN LIFE ARE PRECIOUS. YOU ARE AN ANGEL THAT WAS SENT TO ME. BLESS YOU DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON.

Happy Thanksgiving Larry. Made the drive to the wall in DC and left flowers in your name. Look down on your mom today and fill her with memories to make her smile. I know it is so hard on her during the holidays. Keep your angel's wings wrapped around those who loved you and hold them tight this day, may they soar on your spirit and feel comfort in knowing you are there to guide them and keep them.

What's up stud? Been too long. I know you've always been so proud of your mother, but just a little more. That little spit fire of a women went face to face with big names and big money and whipped their ass!!!!! California will continue to have the death penalty for animals that take away hero's. Keep looking down on us, we feed on your strength.

Always

Good afternoon Officer Lasater. I am truly amazed at the impact your life has had on this world. Thank you so much for your service to your community and to this nation. I visit your reflection page and think of your family often. You will always be remembered with love and admiration by your family and by those who hear about your life. I'm a retired City of Saint Louis Missouri Police Officer. I served the City of St Louis Missouri from 1964 to 1994. My son, Lawrence Eugene Frie is also a police officer in Saint Louis. Phyllis Loya, I want to thank you for your reflections for City Marshal Elmo Frie of Charleston Missouri whose end of watch was October 11, 1899. I truly appreciate the thought and your time to post a note. Your son Larry Lasater, a fellow police officer, and one of this nations many fallen heroes, will always be honored forever. Now, we know Officer Larry Lasater is beyond the noise of the Pittsburg California’s streets, he is now just inside the entrance of Heaven’s Pearly Gates working as one of the Lord’s many fallen heroes ambassadors of peace. May God bless you and all of your family. We both offer our condolences for your and your family’s loss.

Dear Phyllis,
I didn't know Larry personally, but considering he served his country and then wore a badge, he's my brother, irregardless. I'm making a Law Enforcement memorial to post on my youtube, and I'm including your son in it. If you'd like to see it, feel free. My Youtube handle is MrP4rker1. And, fear not, my dear, comments to that video will be only through approval because I DO NOT tolerate internet warriors to post disgusting comments on my videos..especially to our fallen hero's in blue.
